well, not knowing exactly what you are trying to do it would be hard to give you any pointers. as far as getting to the timming chain and sprockets, they are not located in the actual block but in the front cover of the motor, which you can get to by removing the head, water pump and then the aluminum cover.

oh ok thanks..on mine, when i had the head rebuilt sometime back and reinstalled the head back on the motor. somehow the timing jumped on the motor. and my dad and i spend 4 or 5 weeks trying to reset the timing on it and gave up on messing with it and parked that ol 81 luv long bed i had. on the motor you can put it back at TDC and adjust it. then the motor would run bout a minute and a half and it will jump timing. ive got a 4.3 V6 im thinking i just might go ahead and drop it into my 79 Luv.

sounds like your tensioner is not engageed or broke. you can get one at your local parts store fairley cheap.

yeah you have to make sure since you did a rebuild, that the plastic tensioner is still in place and engaged. you just use a flat head screw driver and twist it clockwise until it fully releases. a trick i use when doing that is just pushing on the chain itself so the tensioner engages fully. mine jumped time once and it sucked. that among other problems caused me to rebuild the engine. :-)

lol oh yes..i got a another question, well a couple of em..a friend of mine has a 78 model Luv shortbed with a 86 Isuzu engie upgrade. its a 2.2L gas burner. and he was wanting to install a header on it but pace setter shows a 2.3L over on summitracing.com, is that the same engine or will it work?

and is there other options on header than pace setter? like flowtech or hedman or hooker?
