i found a 350 rocket out of an oldsmobile... is this any good? i'v never heard of it before:? how is this in comparison to a regular 350 chev? and a complete engine with everything(carb intake tranny exhaust manifolds) what would be a reasonable price? ive heard it run... it needs a tune up. its in the car now. they were drivin it this weekend, but the body is badly damaged so he's gunna sell the engine and crush the car

any info on a price, about it weaknesses/turndowns? i dont even know if im gettin it yet but i need to know a lil about it first befor i say i will take it

i think olds are a little more expensive to do all the way around and you would most likely have to fab everything for the install.

My understanding is that the Olds engine is a mid-block vs. a small block or big block. Are you planning to put this in a Luv?

Here's a discussion we had going on an Olds 5.7 Diesel in a Luv. Lots of good info on installation. I think the block is the same as the Olds gas engine, but some of the other folks here could clarify.

Here are some photos of a member who installed an Olds engine in his Luv. Really clean looking rig, but the email appears dead.

The only difference in the Olds blocks is the deck height. about an inch difference between the 350 and the 455. The diesel block can be converted to gas status. It has thicker webbing. Headers would most likely be a custom job. Nothing wrong with a good running olds...

The 350 Old's is or can be a stout performer with little work they already have 6" rods and they make good torqe. They are a faily strong motor and can take alot of punishment and still get good fuel milage . Headers will be custom fit only the rest is pretty straight forward as it has been done and will work .So my advise is if you can do the work then do the swap and you will not be sorry. But as you can see i like to be different anyway.

the olds is a great motor,

but if its already dead... let it go. especially if your on a budget.

Dont get me wrong, the Olds is an excellent motor.... though the rocket 350 isnt as well known a performer as say the 400-425-455 family... but it holds it own.

The fact though, is olds are expensive motors to build. Decent heads arent to easy to come by and 350 internals (particularly pistons) leave little to be desired. I think you should let it go and look towards a regular SBC for ease and cheep cost.

just my .02$
