Do you guys know if anyone in SO CAL can do the v8 swap across? And if a junkyard rear end would be a good idea? I am at wits end with the freaking truck as of this morning. Its just one hiccup after another. :(

Anyways off to OC Driveline to get the shaft balanced :?

You'd have smog passing issues with a v8 in your '80.

Doesn't it become smog exempt in 2 years?

Nope, 75 is the last smog exempt year in Cali.

I mean in cali, say someone has such a truck, and the motor dies, but due to sentimental value, they dont just want to toss it to the junkyard for $100. Know what I mean? Cali should let it be. Or be more flexible on replacement motors. Iowa? Bama? States that don't need smogging? What about inspections? I know some east coast states inspect cars, just curious!

Iowa use to have inspections back in the 70s but they don't anymore. Maybe that is why we have a lot of junk on the roads!!!

Stick a Tuneport in it.

Cany you put an 80 motor in your 80 luv and have it pass???

Thats how it works here for emissions. If you put an EFI 92 motor in your luv its got to meet all the emissions and have all the gear it came with in 92.

300hp of 5L EFi is way easier to live with than 400hp of tempremental carby powered crap. Of course 400hp of well sorted is a different story.

I am contemplating it. I just want to go somewhere where cost of living isn't killer like california, and laws in terms to the automotive hobby aren't so lame.

New start, new beginning, I think it may be good for me actually.
Cali feels so over crowded. lol.

You should move to Iowa. The only problem is if you don't like snow and cold. You can't enjoy your ride in the winter cause of the snow and salt/sand they put on the road. Laws are pretty laid back as far as it goes with cars.

Usually the winters here aren't really that bad, except for this winter. We got ice/snow the begining of December and it hasn't stopped since. We are just a little over 3" of breaking the record of 56". I hope we do it!!! I have a '93 S-10 Blazer that is stock that I drive. Don't have a problem and have only gotten stuck once. And that was at work so I just got a tractor and pulled myself out!!

Well Im seriously contemplating Bama or Io. I just got a job offer, 6-7 month. Design for an automaker, so that'd put me perfect for school for next year, I may take it.

Finish school, then move out of CA.
Im really upset over whats the big deal having a v8 in a luv, ppl drop it into many other things, and there are far greater gross polluters out there then a stock 327 or 350.

Eh, one hurdle at a time.
LAX airport = pain in the ass.just got home.

and i was there at 5pm  wth. lol. anyways have a good one guys!
