Man that is pretty pricey!!! The Horbart welder was 659.95 plus tax. If you do a lot of welding you would probably be better off getting a gas welder. Does a better job welding and has a lot less splatter. Before I got my welder I borrowed a friends Hobart and used it without gas. Didn't do a very good job. Maybe someone who was a good welder (not me!!!) could have done a better job. Too bad you weren't closer, I think that would be fun to do a swap. Would be a good winter project here in Iowa. Looks like there are a lot of Luv owners in Cali., maybe one of them might know of somebody down there that might be interested in doing the swap???? Good luck.

Yah, my friend was contracted over in the east to build a new viper and z06 vette, he has a LS powered luv, but he has no reg contact ability since he is over seeing the resto-modification as well of a 66 fastback and 70 challenger for the same client, I'd beg him; but he won't be back for a long long time lol.

I was actually playing with thoughts in my head, ive seen people with the new displacement on demand v8s from the 5.3's elseward swapped into anything from chevyIIs to camaros, was wondering if that would be a feasable can do.

I like your truck cause the inside seems a whole lot bigger and cleaner. I am going ape shit with mine. The passanger floor needs to be cut and welded, but every place I've gone to around here, won't do it. Its driving me insane, and I cant even figure an estimate on how much something like that would cost.

I just want the small little could be truck to be dependable, and dandy. Every guy around has a tacoma, an s10, etc all dropped and ass dragging, and I just thought its cool to have such a neat old truck. with a white paintjob, siderack, my red surfboard up on it, some fishing poles lol. that was my plan.

head deck, 4 small speakers, contemplated a new powerplant, and that would be it. No crazy insane blingy wheels, nada. Just simple. Clean.

But the little tart is pissing me off. The one my grand father was suppose to give me, my old man took, and its cherry. not a problem in the world. that little buckets got me jealous lol.

Image
Maybe not this extreme, but Id like my truck to be clean. Dependable. And sport a v8 :] 1980 cant hit 30 soooon enough damn it!

And I know, $5k for a swap? I mean I couldn't do it if I tried. I am not that savvy with cars. But come on, the motor and etc should be the most expensive parts I think. And that guy has been building hot rods for rich ppl for to long, little guys get cut out of the service :? . I am not ganna race, not a super speeder, I drive relatively slow lol. But yah, after my friends black v8 luv ride along before he left for a job...

That was seriously it. Such a light fun thing. Low to the ground and the sound of it all...it was mean.
Mine cant be mean. It has to be slower then that, but faster then the stock motor, and with more power     lol.

And this guy who walks his dog, offered me $400 for the truck. I was like NO. I LOVE my LUV. lol. Its a love hate thing going. Ive also noticed I get hurt alot on and around this truck. lol. My dads big dodge, btw, tried to eat him. ionno whats up with the luv, but when i parked it, it was 5 feet away. and when I got back earlier it was face to face, lol. and my dad didnt move his truck. the broom that was laying on it was still there when I got back in the same spot ahahhaa, and my dad was still asleep before waking up to go to his 2nd job. Hahaha.

My truck has a little big truck mentality I think. Dodges are like big huge danes, and my luv is like this little corgi. lol.  :ebiggrin :ewink

I know I know! My other friends who build crap for their super bikes and drift cars where like dude...don't be a lazy ass motherfucker.

lol.
I was like will you guys help me swap a v8   :?:
And they gave me this, weird look. Another guy swapped an LS1TT into his rx7, but he doesn't know me, and is a doctor, and I dont want to come off as some weirdo who shares not the similar interest for bastard swaps. His 240sx has one too. His imported S15 Silvia has a LS7 :( I wish I was cool with cars, but its like math and me. Just isn't that easy for me to retain in my retarded brain hahahaa.

I am actually playing with plastic, ganna see if I can use plastic and sheet metal for a custom dash. My friend Tim said I should leave it alone until I finalize a V8 swap, so that I can do stuff all at once. May just take him up on that lol.

:x Wish that truck was a little terror. But all good things to those who wait :D. I've been killing myself for ideas and stuff for wheels, I love the weld prostars, but the little luv is a 6er...

Any thoughts guys?

Worked the truck over till just about a few mins ago, its running smooth now. But still would like to swap to a v8 later on down the road.

Its heavenly. A cop at 7-11 said cool truck to me, said he hasn't seen one in almost 15 years lol.

It always makes you feel better when someone complaiments you on your ride. Even better when that someone is a cop. Just take your time and fix up your truck a little at a time. If you get fed up or tired of working on it, just take a break from it for a while.

Yah I went back in today to the PD cause I am appart of the Anti-Street Racing Program, and saw the cop, now I know why he liked my truck. lol. He's a mini trucker.

Is $198 for a new windshield with rubber installed to much?
I am actually ganna focus on getting more tools this coming year till summer, after my toolbox was stolen and my bike and frame, I haven't had much interest in anything until I caught the luv bug, and started caring again.

My boss is trying to get me back into drifting, and wants to give me back my 240 that was built almost 6 years ago. lol. and CAT, thanks for the personal message! I really appreciate it alot!

I was actually at my bosses today putting in my notice. Getting stuff ready for school next year at the art center in dena. And we were discussing all the MAKE / MODEL forums online, he said he noticed alot of the rice rocket forums had shit loads of young ppl and assholes all in one. But generally the euro and domestic crowds where more knowledgable, nice, grounded, down to earth people. Like when my sister had an old e30 m3? She was on some forum, and when her car kicked the bucket, some guys banded together some parts, and ended up rebuilding her beemer for her, just from parts and etc junk they had laying around, now she road races that thing i think. Not sure. lol.

But I told him how cool everyones been on here, and he said AH! THE LUV boys! I was like yah, know the forum? He nodded and said hes glad I found the forum, he said he wouldve suggested I joined this community anyways.

Cool.

Anyways, I got a 154 craftsmen toolset from one of my ex bosses out in Long Beach. He asked the same thing some have. Have I thought about going v8? lol. story of my life. lol. he showed me some luv truck out in the flats, racing, it was white! pretty sweet! hahaaha.

Only thing I gripe with is today driving around, i held up traffic, and alot of ppl got pissed off :( some screamed stupid shit, like get off the fucking road! etc. I was thinking to myself, gheez, im sorry its not a new benz or infiniti  lol. sorry its not super ultra fast rofl.

But it can be someday ;)
I sat with my arm hanging out, I even went to the beach and tossed the line in, had my poll hanging out back, my bodyboard and wetsuit too :)

I think its time to invest in truck bed liner DIY kit :D haahahaa.

Oh yah. Did I mention I love the truck?
Friends came by later and there where rx7s, supras, 240s, 350zs, etc. These where guys I use to drift with back in 98 lol. when I was young young. lol.

They are like, why are you so excited over this truck?
:D I cant help it. I dunno why myself. I just really like it. Flat bench. No power steering, cruise at 30mph. sips gas. and ppl get mad when I drive it. hahaha.

Anyways guys, I am ganna shower off and eat some dinner :) hope you are all having a good night!

I would say that $198 is pretty damn cheap. Glad to see someone is Anti-Street Racing. That really PISSES me off when the newpaper and tv guys call it drag racing. It is f**king illegal street racing.

Tell them folks to f**k off. I would drive a Luv any day over a beemer or anyother rice burner.

I think this is the best damn website on the internet. The people on here are the greatest and will help you out anytime. So you have come to the right place.

Good luck on your schooling.

I corrected a guy who was a cop from San Diego once, I said its STREET RACING, he said "Uh no son, its Drag Racing." I said but people going to the track is contained, people on the street are STREET RACING...

Gah, just got all tangled with him over that, and he puts people with modified mustangs, camaros, etc, from old vintage tin to 60s muscle, in the same place as the kids who swap and turbo their civics :x

I hate that. Just cause someone has say a 72 monte carlo with a ls2, doesnt mean they race. They could want just new tech for their old car to make it safer, dependable, and funner to drive.

Just cause someone swaps doesn't mean they are racing.
However that rule doesnt hold so true with the import car scene, every damn kid with a civic and some off shelf turbo kit, tries to run with every fast looking car on the road, even if the owner of say a new M6 is just getting off work heading to pickup say his daughter from school, the kids with hopped up rice rockets try to instigate crap. Well via independant a group I am in goes to meets and staging grounds like at restaurants etc. We take down plate numbers, log activity, etc. I hate people who race on the street, its unsafe, risky, and shines a bad light on a whole crowd for one idiots actions.

My friend deals with that and his Lancer Evo and Sube STi. He runs a marketing company, and has clean cars, from those awd monsters to an old 66 mustang coupe set for road courses, to a 69 challenger, widebody 599GTB, etc. But the point is, he appreciates a well built car. Hes 39 and a dad of 2, he isn't some rice rocket kid, he builds nice japanese cars, and powerful american ones, as well awe inspiring euros.

Yet when in his sti or the like, he is stereo typed by law enforcement because of the reckless behavior youths shine off, with such cars :?

I love the Luv, cause its unique, not common, and to most is just a bucket truck :D
Does anyone know exactly when 1980 will become smog exempt? is it on a new year? or year/month/day of the actual vehicles production that is taken into account? Id really like a small v8 in the luv :) Ive been thinking about it a whole lot more today.

Good for you!!!! I know what you mean about a guy wanting to have a nice car and the cops think he is some young punk out street racing.

Depends. Do you have a good replacement floor? A lot of places do not want to fool around with this kind of stuff. I would think $300 plus.

We used to patch cars in NH with stolen street signs, rivets and lots of RTV....
I'm not recommending it, though...LOL...

Have you considered this repair yourself? There are some amazing adhesives available today. If the area is not structural you just might find you can do it and save the money for a new Offy intake... :D

Its on the passanger floor, where the mount goes through. Its the only thing that really bums me about the truck. And I can't do it myself, no welder and no actual experiance. I want it to be safe btw.

Foul mood, ready to throw in the towel.

Been a hectic day, as some of you may have known I was using the Luv as a Daily because it isn't so bad on gas, I had just put in a new windshield, and have been enjoying its simple-ness.

Well this morning my truck was taken to hell.
Windows where broken, hoses yanked, electrical wires cut, etc.

Talk about dumb though.
My windshield was pulled out, after seeing how the glass installer did it, didnt seem so hard to do now. Well the vandals pulled the glass out, quietly apparently. and unlocked the doors, my ignition switch doesn't even need a key, but eh I didnt know this until after, they rolled my truck away, popped the hood, cut various hoses, yanked some out, cut wires, used bolt cutters or something to screw up some lines, doors where kicked in then opened and kicked outward, rear glass was broken, doors are stuck with glass broken in them, my head deck and 2 speakers where taken, so where my dog tags and zippo, ray bans, my dickies jacket, converse, and mp3 player. They even took my gym bag, ew. dash was torn out completely, gauges where hammered in, tires where all cut up, they really worked my little truck. While talking to the cop he was laughing a little saying how did we not hear all this, and I said the car is way over there, pointing about half a neighborhood away, to the park and the barren field it was in, and I said, I can roll my truck around by myself easily. and once its out there, nobody is ganna hear anything since theres no houses for a long ways near the park and field.

Anyways truck was taken, and I am stuck actually thinking about what to do.
What was the point of destroying an old truck, thats so stupid and retarded.

Anyways the priest at my local church has a friend who lives a little past bakersfield, he has a little canary yellow luv same year, but a little worse for wear...

I was dreaming all about a 5.7 for a while, even smaller 5.3 or smaller. Marvelling at the little truck and what it could be. I feel crappy.

But anyways I may go get this other truck, still same plans if I feel like it. Just...feel really crappy right now. And really mad, another cop I know said carry a bat and park in your drive way from now on. I just never really thought about it, its just a 1980 luv...siting across the street, my parents cars usually in the driveways. Whats so great to take it, steal stuff and then kill it? at least leave the truck alone...take what you want....but what was the point in fucking up the truck :|  ? Was it just an easy target to steal and fuck with? I don't have enemies, and I am always helping others in the community, gah. My cop friend said it was probably random, as I talked to him, he pointed out, its not that hard to steal that little truck anyways :( . Taco will take complete DD status...and now I am thinking of looking for an older 76 or older chevy truck, single cab, but stock with a v8 just as a hauler, after hearing what happened today one of my army buddies may give me his 72 Pickup, I feel happy that so many people have been so supportive and nice, and at the offer of the 72 pickup, just needs trannny work, I feel Ill be kept occupied. But ionno, somethings just diff about the luv pickup. I really loved that little thing, my little beach faring fishing buddy of a truck, even as short as our friendship was...

Gah.

My dad feels like crap since his was 15 feet away. And left untouched...My dad will start parking his dodge ram across the street, and says if anyone fucks with the cars again, put them in the ground or cripple them for life. I bought a new bat today, as well some other stuff from Big 5 sporting goods, I am so angry and pissed off...

I think to keep myself occupied, I will try to gather stuff to assemble a 350 motor, little bits here and there, and if I take the luv home, Ill leave it alone and not even put a stereo or anything in it, my sisters mustang took a shit, so maybe my tacoma can become her DD until that things sorted out or put in the boneyard, eh. that thing ate gas like a fatchick anyways.

Well, I am ganna eat some dinner and look at all your guys luvs before heading to bed, I feel drained, and like crap.

Sorry to hear about that. Keep your chin up. Something good will come out of this. If you end up not getting another Luv, stick around here and chit-chat with us.
