Ok heres the deal; I put all new rotors, calipers and pads on my '79 about 8 months ago. 6 months ago I had a master cylinder installed. This morning my brakes started to get real grabby right before you come to a complete stop. It doesn't do it at cruising speed, only when the truck is barely rolling to a stop. The brakes grab real hard, sometimes they grab and then let off and grab again real quick. It sounds like my front end is coming apart when it happens. I took off my front wheels and shook everything and its all real tight. I think it might be the valve after the master cylinder on the driver side fenderwell. Does anyone know what it is called, and how to tell if its bad?

You shook everything???

Id be going in spanner in hand.

Wheel bearings ok???

Remove the calipers and check the pads are allright.

A warped disc will do what you describe.

That valve thing is just a splittler box if its the one i am thinking of.

Bob.

8) I had the same problem with my 79 about 2 years ago. After some diagnosis time I found 2 things that caused the grabby brake issue. 1)the pistons inside both front brake calipers had a
rust ring that would not allow them to retract when you release the brake pressure. removed the pistons and cleaned rust ring with emory cloth. worked great. 2)the brake booster seal inbetween the master cylinder and booster went bad. somehow over a period of driving the truck the brakes would apply themselves. could feel the steering wheel shake and then smell the pads burning. removed master cylinder. cleaned out old nasty brake fluid/build up in front of the booster. lubed the seal and push rod with grease. brakes have worked fine ever since. hope this helps! Mike.

I found the problem. My rear brakes were completely gone. I replaced the shoes, had the drums turned and replaced my axle seals and bearings this weekend. Everything works great now. Thanks for all the help.
