wellll i hate to be a bummer but that page really gave me no insight on where to get new headbolts. unless i call chevrolet, but thats about it. that site didn't have any 79 bolts, lowest it went was 83 or something. haha

but it did tell me that all engines basically have that same stupid headbolt problem on the exhaust side. i had a hell of a time getting it out yesterday and it ended up starting to strip on the bolt side.

im not sure if i should use it again, thats why i wanted new headbolts all together. just to be on the safe side.

i know i can get it to torque down to what i need it to, but im worried i can never get it out again in case i have to tear into the engine again. hahaha a lot of people had that problem from what i've read.

anyway, if anyone knows an easier way instead of calling and asking to order, etc, then let me know. if not ill resort to that.

oh and should i just take the intake off and take the head to have the valve guide seals redone? can shops do JUST that for cheap? or should i just leave intake on, swap the headgasket, and git'r'done.
:P

edit:::: I just found this through searching on the site and was wondering if I should spend the money for this viewtopic.php?f=5&t=15309&p=114851&hilit=head+bolts+new+head+bolts#p114851

i noticed he only had like 7 posts or something and sometimes people give false information, people buy it, and then F*** up their stuff. haha

so here it is taken apart.

the gasket blew. and is crazy. it blew in the same spot before my rebuild, but was not as bad as this time around.
Image
and heres another close up of it. sheesh
Image

and then hopefully you can see this weird edge on the inside of number 4. is it normal?
Image

but anyway. i am taking it to a machine shop to have the valve guide seals redone while its apart. i hopefully won't regret it later. i'm buying a new set of head bolts online as well as a gasket set. if i buy a head gasket set it will have gaskets for exhaust and intake right? and im goin fel pro this time, i dont want this to happen again :-(

thanks so much guys! hopefully i get a quick reply! :-D

Image

and what do you guys think about the block? does it look alright still? oil spilled from the top of the head while i tried to get it off and went on top of the block and went into a water jacket i think.. is that like. really bad? i drained all the oil and water and antifreeze i could but it still kind of waterfalled out. the oil was just leftover though. i probably should have soaked it up.

@@@@@@@@@@@@@@
also, where would i go to get my head serviced. i just called the people who did it before, and they said they didn't do it... wtf? im totally confused right now, but whatever, im gonna call them again. but any suggestions help, thanks.

now you know when you put the head back on you run the motor for about 1000 to 3000 miles then re torque the head bolts... at least that’s what I have been told a few times... maybe if you didn’t re torque the got a little lose and blew the gasket? just a thought
