So my dad found and bought me the two separate pertronix parts(18433 and 16430), but he doesn't want to install them right away because we dont know why I kept burning through points. Should we be worried or will the electronic setup take care of it all?

Do you know where your Dad got the parts? Pertronix is out off the module, and my local NAPA (Astoria Oregon) doesn't have that module listed in their warehouse. I also talked to Baxter Auto in the Portland area and they would have to order it from Pertronix.

Napa had told him that it didn't exsist, so he called pertronix and they said that it was available, but they cant sell it direct, it has to be ordered from a dealer. He went back to Napa and this time they said they could order it, different guy that time I think. They said it would take 7 to 10 days go arrive, but we still aren't sure if we want to install it without figuring out why I go through points like a fatman does french fries.

I did the two part Pertronix upgrade also. There's a thread on it somewhere here. While talking to them about the required parts, I asked them about coils. They said, (if I remember correctly)in general, there two types of coils. One coil about 1.5 ohms, for use with points and a ballast resistor. The other about 0.5 ohms for use electronic ignition. If you are burning points, maybe you have the latter coil? Or the ballast resistor is bad? Dunno.

PS, Ordered the pertronix parts from summitracing.com . It took a while to get them.

I ordered my Pertronix set-up through NAPA on Friday. It takes 7-10 days because they are making them as they are ordered. Costs around $120 with shipping for the module and the ring.

I installed the parts in about 25 minutes pretty easily. The only problem we had was getting the timing right. I had read on some older thread that setting it to 12 degrees was better then 6 degrees but they both ran pretty rough and I ended up setting it to around 14. Is this weird? or should i get a different timing light and double check it?
