Hey guys, just found out the headgasket is blown between 3 and 4, well hopefully, and before I absolutely have to buy a new head, because its already been planed with like .0001 off or w/e is 10 thousandths, i need to check to see if its not on the back end of the engine, which it most likely is not.

anyway. i need a remanufactured head, and i have no idea where to get them, or just a plain brand new head.

i just want to get the thing. plop it back on the damn thing and LUV my truck again. :-)

that way i dont have to worry about valve seals, the cam, and blah blah blah.

anyone have any info on them and relatively how much they would cost?

and by the way, my truck has the g180. thanks guys

Is the head warped? If the head gasket is blown, it doesn't always mean the head has been damaged. This is not my area of expertise, but I'd make sure the head was damaged before I spent any money on a new one. A head gasket set is relatively inexpensive compared to a reman'd head, and you'll need a gasket set either way...

If you replace the head gasket you'll still have to insure the cam is set up properly and set the valve lash when you reassemble it. Tazman just did one of these on his truck, viewtopic.php?f=5&t=15673 and there are a lot of threads on this topic here on the site.

Good luck :D

I'm Assuming this is an aluminum head and I could be way off because I'm just now learning about this stuff in automotive classes.

But I'm tearing apart a g180 for the engine im rebuilding....

you can test the head with a die kit or have it pressure tested for cracks if the head is warp instead of shaving it they have a way of straighting out alumin head using a oven to get it back in shape and if it has a crack they can just cut it out and add more aluminum to it then machine back why this is all going on they can probaly clean the valves and grind the cam and you would have a good top end.

so you might look into pricing this out at a machine shop before just buying a new head or a used one from a junk yard.

these are from the local junk yard here in redding california

211.05 for a 1980 chevy luv engine head

but like I said Im new and just giving my opion in the tiny knowledge I have gained sofar.

the thing is we've already had the head machined. it was shaved 10 thousandths or w/e, and if its shaved too much more, it will end up pinging and i dont feel like buying octane booster to make the pinging go away. but anyway, its a recent rebuild back in january 07, the whole engine was completely done by my dad and i. and hes in indiana, he came out for a week and stopped by today and just said to buy a new head or reman'd and thats what i'd rather do, because he doesn't have the time. i love working on the thing, but its at the point right now where i just want to get something for it, put it on, and drive it. im tired of walking to work everyday haha.

i've been looking online and found a few hits, but it says electric fuel pump, and i dont know if mine is or not. im no good with the mechanics for this thing, except i know how to tear it apart and put it back together.

oh and thanks for that site for the parts. thats nifty, i wish our junk yards up here had a search function. haha

if you have a mechanical fuel pump, you can see it on the passenger side front of the head.... right by the distributor. You more than likely have an electrical fuel pump though.

I have a head, but im not 100% sure what engine that I had.
I THINK its good, but again Im not 100% sure.

The motor spun a bearing and the con rod cam apart, but the head didnt get damaged from it.

*looks hopeful* 8O

well lets say if you did have a g180 head, would you be willing to sell it/part with it and for how much? im up in washington so im sure freight would be pretty spendy. lol but as long as the thing is in good condition and will fit that would be awesome.

Id be willing to give it to you for the shipping & packing....

but lets make sure its what you want first....

I can take all the pics you want of it, but if there is a way to identify it before hand lets check first.

right on. maybe someone on here can tell us of a way to identify it. haha if you knew the old block, there is the iron casting on the side, but then again you could of had a different head as well.

take lots and lots of pictures. i wonder how much shipping and freight would be.

I was just about to take some pics of it, but the batteries in my camara need to be recharged...

Where would it be stamped at? Its kind of messy right now, Ill have to take it through the car wash tomorrow....
There is suposed to be storms/ ice or some crap moving in tonight and tomorrow, its cold, windy and getting near dark outside right now. So if I know where to look then I can just spray that area with some brake cleaner and not have to be outside hunting for numbers with a flashlight.

Quote:
the g200 head will have "G200" on the front of it. the g180 head will have an isuzu symbol on the front.

ok so i've decided im just going to replace the head gasket for right now, and possibly take it to a shop to have the valve guides redone, but then again im debating.

but i have a question about tearing it down. i've gotten all the headbolts out, and took off the exhaust manifold, but am leaving the intake on, but the head barely moves.

im thinking, that right next to the timing chain, there are 2 bolts that i might need to take out? but im not sure, im guessing i do anyway.

and to keep the timing chain up, what should i do? thats also why it won't budge beacuse i realized i haven't taken out that big bolt that goes into the chain sprocket. hahahaha

should i use zip ties. or does the tensioner save me that trouble?

thanks.

yes they need to come out and use the zip ties, i use 3 at 9 12 and 3 on the sprocket as if it was a clock
