I'm going to swap a 4.3L and T700 into my '75 Luv. All over there is the recommendation to use the S-10 rear end. I understand why. It fits. It's easy. It's Chevy. The problem is having to ship drums or disks off to have them converted to 5 lug. Troopers come with V6 motors and nice highway gearing for fuel mileage. AND, they have the Luv 6 lug pattern. Is there any reason to avoid trooper or Pup rear ends? Why not do this and save some money and time? Thoughts on this. vs

What year s10 rear you plan on usin? I used an 89 and had to get the hubs/axles re-drilled to 6 lug to match factory luv bolt pattern

Nothing wrong with Isuzu rears.

I'm running an '86 Pup rearend and I've had no problems. It's a lot tougher and stronger than my old stock Luv rearend, plus the gear ratio is way better. I put mine in at the same time I installed a 5 speed from the same donor truck, and it made a huge difference in power and gas mileage.

I was wondering... Is there a source for different ratio differentials online for the Isuzu rearends? I have a 79 4x4, if I upped the ratio in each differential it would be a gas saver, on top of the 5th gear-but I do like the ultra low rock crawl ratio in it now!

Hey taz, what ratio do you have on your rearend, 3.73 or 3.42?

Well, the plans have changed a little. I just found an 87 P'up in my neighborhood. The lady wants 500 for it. It's got a good motor, 5 speed and rearend. Only thing it doesn't have is a title. That's cool. I'll make a trailer of the bed and cut up and scrap the cab. Since I have a '75, I'll have to modify my motor mounts a little. After 76 Isuzu moved the block mounts about 4" aft. Not a problem, just a small weld job. When I yank the 2.3L it's going to the shop for a rebuild with my tax return check. In about a month I should be running a fresh-painted, 0 miles, classic, gas-saving, original-looking Luv. I'm taking pictures and will put them up. Thanks for all the help.
