I think I might have all of you beat by this one. I was a new born baby when I first had a relationship with a LUV. My dad had a 73 2wd with a SBC 400. My parents say that for a long time, I wouldn't sleep at night. So my dad had the idea to drive me around in the truck and see if it would help at all. They said that 5 minutes in the truck with the rumble of the V8 and I would be sound asleep. He said the minute he pulled in the driveway and shut the truck off, I would wake up and cry again.

You see, me and these things have been together since birth!

About 12 years ago I wanted one, didn't get my first one until almost 4 years ago. I probably should have bought one earlier, just didn't know much about them and they are hard to find up here in the Northeast and getting harder to find as time goes on. My first memory of knowing about the LUV is remembering people in High School having them.

25 years. My Grandpa had a '74 that I learned to drive a stick shift in. I wanted to buy it but don't remember what happened??? And shortly after that a local Chevy garage had a '77 (I believe) Mikado blue with a flatbed that was a sharp looking truck. But more than I could afford at the time. I got my current truck in late '99 from my dad. About 3 years ago I bought another '74 Luv at an auction. It didn't run and had some rust. I bought it for less that $20. Kept a few parts than resold it. Now I wished I would have kept it!!

Got my first a black 77 when I was 16. Early 80's

Bought it from a teacher, who's wife had ran the front end under a flatbed trailer, among other things, had ripped the intake and carb off it's studs. Payed about $500 for it dragged it home, spent the summer looking for parts, happened accross an ol guy who had one rotting away on blocks. For $100 said I could have any part off it I could haul. Complete front end, radiator, valve cover, Weber carb and trip to Macco later I had a pretty sweet ride for a 16 yr old. Even taught myself to drive stick in that truck.

What's funny is I did more work on that one than I have on the current one to keep it running.

First experience with a LUV was 1983. A really good college friend had a yellow '78 or so. He lived on a ranch in Klamath Falls and his tom cat had sprayed the interior when he left the windows open. We drove it from his place to college, about 4 hours, with the windows down and the carpet pulled out of it. Gagging and gasping all the way, even at 55mph with the rain coming in. Wet cat pee only made it stink worse...

I swore I'd never own one. lol....

I was 11 in the 6th grade (1979), when my grandpa bought a nearly new yellow 1979 4x4 with all the orange decals. Always wanted that truck from the day I saw it. It is still in the family with my uncle in Gates, Oregon.....
