A little FYI on TPI_Guy...

He's got a '61 Chevy C10 with a TPI 350, and two 1st gen Camaros. One with a TPI setup and a second one in the works. He uses the '61 as a daily driver, so he's obviously got this sorted out. Plus he's only about 10 miles from me. :D

When the time comes, I'd like to go TPI in my truck, and I know lots of other people are looking at this...

Just thought I'd share. I was pretty stunned when he opened his garage door and saw that pair of Camaros. One is an SS. Then he popped the hood on the '61 and I couldn't help but drool. Hope to see him here and there, feel free to shoot him a PM on your TPI installs...

Parts!

Hotrod80 sent me a set of valve covers, and some other really cool stuff. Gratis. He wouldn't even tell me shipping costs. This board rocks 8) .

Here is what he included:

Image Image

-Chrome heavy gauge Chevrolet logo valve covers, breather cap
-T-handle valve cover hold downs
-Dozen or so misc. Gaskets
-Nylon valve stem seals
-Fan spacer
-REALLY nice B&M aluminum shifter handle
-and a couple of un-identifiables to my novice SBC mind...lol

Thank you Hotrod80.

--------------------

My Edelbrock Streetmaster intake arrived from Ebay, it's a single plane but I think it's going to be alright. In really good shape. $56 including shipping...

Image Image
Image

--------------------

My cam and lifters also arrived, but there is a BIG problem. The numbers written on the lifters have mostly rubbed off. I'm not sure what I'm going to do about this. $35 including shipping.

The seller was really good about numbering this stuff so it could be put back together right...Help!?

Image

I'm beginning to feel a little like Johnny Cash and his 54, 55, 56, 57, etc. Cadillac...haha...

Thanks again Hotrod80, and everyone else for checking in on this project!

I sold the Weber, so I went ahead and ordered this:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayI ... :IT&ih=017

How am I going to hook up heater hoses with this water pump?

I'm trying to budget this project out so I can use new parts for the cooling and brake system.

------------------------------------------

The seller of my cam emailed me that the cam only has 1.5 hours on it. He suggested I just drop the lifters anywhere. I just don't know enough about the break in time to know if I should risk it...

------------------------------------------

I've decided to send the '78 on it's way, I'm going to pull the dash, interior and door hinges and pass it on to another member here. I'll post details on that soon...

Appreciate your comments 8)

There are 2 brass plugs in the pump. Leave the one on the top plugged. One hose nipple will go in the other plugged spot, and the other hose will either go in the intake, or the radiator if it has a provision.

what is the disadvantage/advantage to using the water hole on the SIDE of the pump instead of the one on the TOP?

The top one was used for a short hose to the intake similar to the way a BBC is. The one on the side I suggested as that's the way most sbc's are run and it just looks a little cleaner on the installation, IMO. There is no advantage as far as I know.

Whew, thanks for the relief! As you probably figured by my q, mine comes out the top and out the h/c to the intake. I guess it does knida look a little goofy tho.

chevyluvss, got any pics of your engine? I'm using the photos hotrod80 posted early in this thread as a guide to how it's supposed to go together, but I'm curious how this hose setup differs from his.

sorry bout the wait, AND THE MESSY ENGINE BAY, hope this is what you had in mind.

works great and heats up super fast, the only thing i am unsure of is where i have the temp sensor (its on the intake). I would have liked to pluged it into the head but they are early vette head and do not have that provision. :( bummer huh

chevyluvss -> Are you using the stock heater control valve?

nope, just straight thru. I am debating it tho. I'd really like a way to regulate the pressure inside the heater core, so its not 18-20psi like the rest of the system.

I'm pretty excited about this newest development. One more opportunity to pay it forward. I gave luvprojects the '78, and I now have the '75 in the garage! Woohoo!

James (luvprojects) brought up a core support and a really nice hood, so it was sort of a trade, but the '78 is now his. Not sure what his plans are, but I'm glad to see it go to another member here, and it's one less thing in the way for the V8 project.

The '78 is no prize, but then again it's more complete than the '75 is, and free is free... 8)

Here's some pics...

Image

Bye-bye '78. We pulled the back bumper after we moved it onto the trailer, it only had about 3" of road clearance....

Image

Hello covered work area! Yay! The '75 is FINALLY inside...

Hoping to begin work on the engine dissassembly and cleaning up the wiring and core support. More to come as I can begin to actually quit talking about this and start doing it. :D

Got the core support out. I don't have a torch, so I had to make do. Wonderbar and a hammer, yay.

Pulled the wiring, and began a little clean up. The passenger inner fender is bent pretty good, the plan is to put the new core support in after the engine/trans goes in, so I'll have some time to figure out how to get it straight.

Man, there is A LOT of work ahead of me...lol...

What's the best way to prep the engine bay for a repaint?

I haven't decided on the final color for the truck yet, but I'm leaning towards Silver/Aluminum or a Light Green. I think I'm just going to paint everything in the engine bay black, but I want it to stick and stay put. I'm guessing the only thing I need to pay attention to is prep, but I'm curious if I need a high heat paint? Should I try to paint it the color of the truck instead? I'm concerned about heat in engine bay, and while black would look cool, I think it might add to heat retention...

I'd like to clean up some of the holes, prep it really well and just use rattle cans. The factory paint in the engine bay is pretty good with very minimal rust, so I'm thinking red scotchbrite pads, acetone and a lot of time.

Your recommendations are appreciated.

More parts, I'm hoping to pick up an engine lift tomorrow and finally get my engine set up on the stand. Depends on the weather, but we'll see...

New parts:
Alumimun hi-flow water pump
OEM NOS heater control valve

Image

Used parts:
Mikado kick panels (rondog)
Luv cigarette lighter
Front bumper turn signal lenses
door sill plates
Drivers rear tailight chrome bezel
vent pull knob
windshield wiper switch
windshield wiper swith housing (Wolfsburg)

Image

Chevy 10 Bolt chrom diff cover
Grant GT Steering wheel w/adapter (TPI Guy)

Image

Anyone need the diff cover? Pay shipping and I'll get it out to you. Just PM me, please.

I may have an aftermarket steering wheel and adapter available soon. I bought the one WildLuvRacing1974 had for sale and a few days later TPI Guy gave me this one. :)

I bought the kick panels from rondog with the specific intention of using them for templates and possibly making a pattern and/or pre-cut piece available here. Any interest in this?

Thanks for checking in, it's still coming together but the pile o'parts continues to grow...

Thanks Mad Dog, that's what I really like about this forum... :ebiggrin

I just went out and looked it over again, and you are right on. It is an 1850-5 1902 model, and the secondary metering block has a vacuum port.

So now, what does that mean as far as building my engine? Any significance for a street driven truck? I need to go do some net searching on this carb...
