I have a 1979 luv stock with 116,000 miles on it. I am having problems with loss of power. It ideal fine an revs up fine. When I drive it it spark nocks an does not want to go. I have put new points, plugs, wires , clean gas tank an changed fuel filter. Still doing same thing. When I check to see if it firing on all plugs it is. But when I pull the wires off the dist. two of them you can realy tell it an two it does not make any difference. Does anyone have any idea what might be wrong with it?

Thanks

Sounds like maybe you popped a head gasket. Have you done a compression check?

The two wires you pull off that don't make a difference, Are they sparking? Take one off and point it at the valve cover or something and make sure it is sparking. That will rule out the distributer.
I had a dist. with worn lobes. The #2 was the worst and it would not open the points enough on the #2, thus, not firing.

Maybe do a compression test on the motor after you get done checking everything else

Was it running fine before the water???

The best way to check if its really sparking is to use a timing light.
If you do not own one is probably a good idea to buy one. Buy a compression tester too. A screw in type one. These are tools you will buy once and own for the rest of your life.

To check the spark just put the conductive clip on the lead for the cyl you want to check. I would start on number 1 cyl and set the timing first.

Cheers, Bob.
