Hay, TJ White --- You're my neighbor! I live a couple towns over in Pilot Rock! We'll have to set up a Chevy LUV gathering or sumthin'! :P

I don't need any extra parts (that I know of yet), but I will be looking for a weber 32/36 pretty soon to boost the HP. I gotta let the savings account build back up first --- which may take a few millennia.....or a couple months, whichever comes first.

Anyway, I'm gonna start a new thread in the 'Introductions' section and post a couple PICs! See ya there!

Keep your eye out for a cheap any other RWD Isuzu 4cyl.

Impulse or a later pickup or trooper II.

2L turbo
2.3L carby motor.
2.6L EFI motor.

If you can follow a firing diagram 2.6L EFI makes a big difference. Time better spent than putting a weber on a G180

hay bob....

are those 2.__ liters v6's or 4 bangers? I kinda feel like the v6 is the way to go, but what do i know? I'm new to these...

Seems like a v8 would be overkill....

Anyway... so far I've checked the plugs. The first plug closest to the back of the engine had a bit of a gasoline smell to it. The gaps on all were close, but a little wide so I corrected them. I checked the fuses and discovered 2 bad.

I pulled the dist cap and didn't see any points. Does the 78 have points? I saw a condenser...

Next, I'll check the timing/dwell. Then spray out the carb -- try to clean it up a bit. If that doesn't do enough, then I suppose I'll pull the carb and check the float. If that's not enough then throw a kit on it and rebuild it.

what do you think?

They are both 4cyl and are pretty much a bolt in fit with the right mounting hardware.

See these two threads.

To make the 2.6L a carby motor.

Im not 100% sure but the 2.6L motor was near on 100kw with a balls load of torque for a 4cyl. The 2.3L wasnt far behind it 89kw or something springs to mind. (when they dropped our local Kingswood ute in 84 all you could get from GM was a 2.3L (Rodeo) pickup and it had more go than the 3.3L straight six in the old ute. Ive got a write up here from a motor mag, a test of 4 utes 2 jap the 2.3L pickup and our local Ford Falcon ute with a 250cid inline 6cyl. The pickup came out the winner after various tests loaded/empty and economy.)
