Just thought I'd share with you guys. Our 3 year old son asked for 'a firetruck he could ride on' for Christmas, and not being in a position to buy a $300 kettcar, I found this. It's a vintage Sears pedal truck, probably close to 30 years old. The first pic is what I picked up off of craigslist for $25 and an hour's drive. It was a lot more beat up than the photo shows. The rest are just before it went under the tree. I spent about $20 in vinyl paint and stickers and about 12 hours on it altogether...

I'm pretty proud of the way it turned out, I know it's not accurate or lifelike, but he sure digs it. I spent about 1/2 an hour just polishing the bell...hahaha..

Got bonus points from the wife, she said something about how romantic it was that I spent all this time on trying to fix it up when money was so tight. I'll never understand women...lol..

Very cool... any "Father" can run out and buy his kid a $300 toy car like 'everyone' else has, but that's the kind of stuff only a true Dad can or is willing to pull off.

Something your son can be proud of, a one of a kind.

Very nice work.

Good job, man. Some day he will be more even more proud of it knowing Dad built it.

When I was little, I spent many hours with my fire truck, working on it, next to dad, while he worked on our car.
I can't remember how many times it fell off the floor jack. And I would stuff old spark plugs anywhere I could and they would fall out all over the side walk as I drove it.
Mine was new when I got it, I seen photos, but I only remember it all scratched up and used. I must have been pretty rough on it.

It's kinda the same feeling you get when he draws a picture or makes some simple little thing and gives it to you with a "Look what I made for you Dad!"

It's not what it is - it's the what and the why that went in to making it.

That little sparkle in his eyes when you gave it to him is some pretty magic stuff that IMHO is as absolutely priceless as that little firetruck you just built for your son.

Any male can grow up enough to be a man...but not all men can grow up enough to be a father.

You gotta put your whole heart and soul into it and really work at it 24/7, 365 days a year - no matter what life throws at you.

And nukeday...the reason your wife was so happy about that little truck is because she realizes she's married to a guy that gets all of that.

My hat's off to you...job well done!
