Well i fianlly did it. I butchered my perfectly good luv up to make it into a gonna be full drag truck. Gutted the dash and cut all the fender panels and supports out. Re routed the wires to right side under the dash panel to get them inside. Have a little fiberglasssing to do. Need a fiberglass hood now to get rid of some more excess weight.
Gonna cut and reroute my brake fluid switch and clean it up also. Inside mikado door panels are out tooas well as the dash pad, cluster, glove box etc. Oh well, no turning back now. Will have to see about getting some starting pics up somehow.

Here are some ideas for looks and weight savings.

The master cyl. is alum. out of a Jeep Cherakee

The Rack is a 78 Pinto( mustangII) home made mounts for better ground clearance

So TJ did you cut the dash completely out and put the aluminum or sheet metal in. As of now my dash is intact and was just gonna lay fiber glass over it to smooth it out or cut out the top part to remove excess weight.
I kinda want to retain some stock apearance in it or just cut half out were the glove box was.
Couldn't beleive how heavy the Mikado door panels were compared to regular ones. Did you put aluminum in your panels. Gonna have to think about the seats next. I have the high back buckets from a gm and are a little heavy but not as bad as the bench.
As for now my drivetrain is stillo the same with the 400 hp small block and turbo 350 tranny with the stall
Gotta run it until it goes. Still have the s 10 posi in it too. Just trying to get all the weight off for now.

Probably won't cut up the dash. I still have all the original stuff for it, Heater and everything in case I want to make it original on the inside again. Just making this one as light as I can with the least amount of money possible. Not gonna be a real competitoron the strip. Just a weekend trip to the track for fun and games.
This truck is my toy and wasn't meant to be a daily driver or original streeter. . i want another original for that

I cut the dash completely out to do the alum. one so i could get the look that i wanted. The stock dash is so light in weight that cutting it out is not worth it unless you want the different look like i did. If i do another one i would carefully cover the stock dash with alum. and make alum. panel to install the gauges, this would make for a sporty and nice looking dash.

The door panels i used the stock ones for a template and then used nutzerts and used SS button head bolts to install them, the same as i did the dash but in you case i would rivet the panels in.

Check your doors as i have found some like mine that have the safety beams in them and they are HEAVY as my door way the same as a full size truck. But i have found allot of them with out the safety bars also.

I would use 20 gauge alum for the dash and the doors .

The alum. master cyl. was a easy adaption on my trucks as i made up a 1/4" adapter plate to bolt in on then i hooked up the line in reverse order so that i had the most braking going to the rear and it works great oh and i have disk brakes on the rear also. These are a set that i built and have built for 2 other cars as well

Cool, thanks a bunch. Will check my doors. In the process of making my dash panel for the guages as we speak. Just gotta paint it now with textured paint. have all the holes drilled and ready for the guages and turn signal and high beam lights.

Also bought a little wheel horse 10 horse pulling tractor today. Very cheap all new stuff. Might sell it for a profit/ Will be a great starter for some youngster or even older person. This thing is awesome and supposed to be really good. Will try and get a pic up .
