I have looked up a bunch of stuff which says it is possible to convert a Yamaha SHO V6 into a RWD setup with a T5 tranny out of a late model stang. I'm a big fan of power houses with high revs and want to put this sleeper into my 82 luv. I got a 350 just laying around but I want something really different with a bit better gas milage than a typical 350. What do all you guys think about it?

If I recall the SHO motor is about 220-240hp. I had one with a c&l cold sir kit the SHO shop butterfly and chip and it would see 8500RPM with no problems. The motor is a great motor and it would be a great swap. the also make supercharger kits for the SHO V6.

i know the SHO v8s have cam issues, i.e. braking in half. Not too much experience with the v6s tho in the shop, just some cracking rubber intake boots.

You can make as much power as you want with the Chevy 350, and spend less money.
If you just love fabrication, and you have to have that engine, I would say go for it.
They have engine and transmission mounts and headers for the 350 Luv conversion at Summit. There is also a complete how to section on this site, and you are right about having a major sleeper. Gas mileage? I get about 24 on the highway, with my Camaro, and it would be better in a lighter truck. It also goes 13:46 in a 3300 pound car, and I'm thinking I could chop a second off of that if it was in the truck.

I have looked around for 350 motor mounts for the 81-83 luvs but I have not seen them. Also a Manual trans is essential and it seems like the GM T-5s are harder to locate and more expensive when you do find them. I'm not trying to say the SHO swap would be easier by any means but I would like to try something diffderent and a 350 has been dropped into pretty much every type of vehicle out there. I used to have a Yamaha R6 and I would really like my truck to drive more like a motorcycle. If I got the SHO engine and a close ratio T-56 six speed it would probably be as close as I could get.
