I have a console B&M shifter from a Mercury Capri . There isn't to much room between the seat and shifter hump.

I'm talking about a shifter for a manual gearbox, the setup i have seen bolts to the original stick location and via a linkage moves the stick back closer to seat and gives shorter throw

Heres a pic of a remote shifter, this would be cool in a Luv or Pup. They are a popular mod done to gemini/ I marks here in Australia.

Is the remote shifter, the rubber boot that you guys are talking about?
If that's the case, I used a aftermarket one from Kragen Auto, it worked good, it came with a chrome square ring that you screwed down.

No. If you look at the pic carefully, you see where the stick should go into the trans. But there is a mechanism there that travels back a few inches, and the stick is in there. It is a mechanism that moves the shifter back so it will come up through the floor in a different spot.

The 5spd I pulled from my Impulse parts car has this gizmo on it. I have considered putting it in my 77 when I swap the trans in, but not sure I want to have to reach back beside me to shift. Its not like the I'm really reaching far in the LUV to shift anyway. But, I figured I'd measure it out before I decided anything. I'll try to snap a few pics of it this week.

Well you can see in that pic, that the shifter is pointed back towards the front so you can reach it.

I don't see a need for it in my stuff, either. I'm sure there are applications where it makes a lot of sense though.

The Impulse one is too far back. It can be shortened.

The one off the box in the picture sort of does fit but its doesnt.

The Box its on is the later model MUA transmission as opposed to the MSG box in the luv and impulse and pickup with a 2.3L or smaller.
The shifter quadrants have different bolt spacings. Reason being that the on the early transmission the mounting face slopes down at the rear, on the later MUA trans its flat and parallel to the main shaft in the box.

So if you modify the bolt pattern and space it up so the back of it doesnt hit the rear extension housing it can be made to fit.

You would be better off with a column shift quadrant and an aftermarket linkage type shifter.
