To start, I replaced most of the vacuum lines this morning. I drove her about 15 miles on the highway and she ran great. Drove her back and she ran great. While changing the oil I noticed that the fuel filter was only 1/4 full. So I filled the line and filter with fuel. I put the supply line back on. I noticed that the line from the pump had a hose clamp come loose. I pulled the hose off, reattached it, and put a new clamp on.

On the test drive, she accelerated great for about 1/4 mile. The she sputtered under load and quit several times. She would idle fine, but would sputter under load. Now she'll go a little better under load, but won't idle at all. I know it's a fuel issue because it is sputtering under load, won't idle at all. I thought with letting run it would clear the air out of the system.

My guess is that there is air in the pump. Any ideas how to get her running again? I know there is 12 vdc to the pump, a filter full of fuel; and about 100 miles on the dizzy cap, plug wires, plugs, air filter, and dizzy coil. Thanks in advance.

Your pump might be acting up. I've had stock ones quit working. Also check for restriction in pickup line from tank to the fuel filter on the frame. About every couple years mine will start surging on inclines and almost stall to a stop. I have to baby it home. When I get home I check the sight glass on float bowl, and it is usually low gas level. ( telling me I have a fuel delivery problem). Replace fuel filter and good for another two years.. Also you mentioned changing vaccum lines. Make sure all are hooked up properly. If not you may be creating a nonventing gas tank which will result in vapor lock after several miles.

this might sound like the most hopless thing ever
but check ur fuses my 1980 luv has ran great and then for no reason will just die on me
every time i check the fuel line pump and wires and it winds up being a fuse that has blown or knocked lose in the gen box
also get some carb cleaner it got my 80 from loading up

The filter is full. I'll go see about a new pump I guess. Thx...

I took her out for a drive this morning. Still no idle. But on the bright side, after a little sputtering and hesitation I got wind her out to about 4500 rpm w/o missing. So now I'm not so sure about a fuel delivery problem. I am definitely thinking it is a vacuum problem somewhere.

On my 80 Luv 4x4, I use the diagram off the hood. Once you get familar with that it's not hard to figure out where all the hoses go.

So I guess letting the air out of my fuel filter and replacing 1/s of the vacuum lines made the fuel system a lot more effective. I was running way too rich. I found out by cranking the idle way up so it would actually idle. Then I drove it for a couple of minutes. Readjusted the idle and drove again for awhile. I noticed I couldn't get her to idle below 1500 rpm or so. So I cut the fuel back and she started idling a lot better. After a little more tuning she is running great. Plus a lot snappier throttle response.
