Here are some pics I took yesterday of my firewood LUV loaded to the max with green split firewood that was cut down a couple months ago. I just added the 2x8 bed rails over the weekend and under all the wood in the front of the bed is a tool box I built for my saws and stuff. Even with the tool box, the capacity is increased. I will have to take a pic of the bed empty showing the tool box. Anyway, ya think I can fit any more wood on her? lol  I almost had to drop down to 1st gear coming up the hill before my house, so I still have a little more hauling power! I don't know how much weight I have been carrying, but after some research, apparently a cord of wood weighs anywhere from 2 to 3 tons, and I have on a half cord or a little less of green wood, I would say I have been carrying anywhere from 3/4 ton to 1 1/2 ton on her, depending on how wet the wood was. I guess I should not try for any more or I will be pressing my luck! And to think I was going to go with 2x10 or 2x12 bed rails! the 2x8's were just right because I can barely reach over the side to the very middle of the bed when loading and unloading. This is a great little truck for getting back in the woods too. Maybe I should put the Offy intake on with a Weber to get that extra 25hp? Then maybe I can get 2 ton on her! Go LUV power! 8)

It kind of looks like the frame is bending. :D
The gap between the bed and cab looks wider at the top than it is at the bottom. It's probably the angle of the pic.

My Dad used to use his 56 F100 (and it is nicely painted and mostly restored) to go out in the yard and get his fire wood, then he would back it into the garage where it lives, and just grab the wood from there when he would need it.

IT does look like the gap bteween the bed and cab looks a little wider.
I have overload springs on mine, but that was just to raise up the rear end. 8)

Yeah, I am lucky enough to have an unregistered unlicensed rusted out LUV that I was going to use for parts or whatever firewood truck. :D Yeah the bed sits on it funny now. When they took the bed off to weld some steel brackets on the frame where it was welded in the past and add some extra leaf springs, things don't quite line up now like they used to. I used the truck all last Winter for getting wood and I do notice it helps a lot with the extra leaf springs now. I supposed I could buy an old S-10 for firewood, but it probably would be in no better shape and rusted just as much, but I would miss the firewood LUV! 8)

That's awesome! Just ditch the stock bed and build ya' a flat bed! Slap on some nice side racks, and 1 ton springs, you'll be haulin' all kinds of wood!

LOL!!

Yeah, was thinking that when the bed rots out I will just build a new one. As long as I can haul the load up the hill I would put on as much as I can. I almost had to downshift to 1st with this load, it was close. I had it floored in 2nd as I was creeping slowly up the hill. I am guessing I had almost a half cord on the truck, but I need to measure yet to get the cubic volume and see. All I need now is an Offy and a Weber on there!

Actually I didn't have it in 4x4. I was out of the woods, just driving up the hard road to my house and the hill is a pretty decent 1/4 - 1/2 mile climb. I never thought about 4 low, so yeah, I guess I could haul a lot more if I was able to load it on. This isn't bad though and I don't drive far to get the wood, a couple miles or so max.

Put it in 4 low but don't bother getting out and locking in the hubs. It will still be 2WD, but you have the advantage of the low gears to climb the hill.
The eng. will thank you. :D

That's pretty much where I was going with that. You can crawl in 2-low in second or third gear, and still be under first 2-Hi.

Your Clutch will thank you too!

Thanks guys, I will keep that in mind. I didn't think I could use the 4x4 gears without the hubs locked in. I actually have the hubs locked in, but was in 2wd. So either way I guess. Thanks for that tip. Now I can load 2 more ton on her!

I had my Diesel loaded up like that before, not with bed wall extensions like you do though, couldn't see but a 1/4" between the tire and the quarter panel on the bed, drove smooth though, slow but smooth :D
