So, my '79 no longer has a smog pump, and I am going to have to pass an emissions test. Problem.

Solution? I have a spare motor that DOES have a smog pump. The trouble is that my spare motor is a 72-76 cast iron head 180G. Any idea if the smog pumps are interchangeable?

Check it to make sure it spins freely, if all the hoses mate to their similar fittings on the new pump it should work...all a smog pump really does is pump air. Chances are that the smog tech is only looking to see that it is present.

If your area is like mine, (SF Bay area) the allowable emissions are so high that even a pump that is bad will still pass, but it DOES need to be present for the visual inspection.
