Hey fellas, got a question for ya. I know the engine is different on 72-75 Luv's and all but I was wondering if the later engine fits the older tranny? Thanks for any help you can put.

Im perty shure but im not postive that the only change from the "1st generation" luvs to the "2nd and 3rd generation" luvs was that the first gen ones didnt have a hemisphereical combustion chamber, thust the intake and exaust on are the same side. Im perty shure they cept the same tranny.

The internals of the trans are the same, but I believe the starter is on the right hand side of the engine in the older models. Since the bell housing is cast as part of the tranny case that would make them incompatible. The clutch switches sides when they went to cable rather than hydralic (78 I think) but for an engine going into something other than a LUV that wouldn't so much matter.

Thanks for the info. I will look for the head and intake, etc to complete my early motor and trans and not worry about using later stuff.
