Well I don't have any money, I don't have the knowledge, I don't have the time to fix my truck again.

I have the 79 green luv. I love it so much, it's hard that I might have to make this decision. It's sad because the truck has become something like my best friend. I have to let it go, I don't want to see it get rusted out by just sitting out in my driveway, unless something magical happens and I can fix it.

Is anyone on here interested in buying it. I can get interior shots, engine shots, stuff like that if you'd like. I'm in vancouver, WA, or if someone around here is feeling kind enough to come over and take a look at it who has had luv's for a while, or just plain out knows cars. That would be awesome. I would love to fix it up if it just might be an easy fix.

Another thing, what kind of mechanics would beable to diagnose the problem? Who could I go to around here, such as a shop or something, that could listen to it, check it out, and then fix it? I really wouldn't care what the price was, I could get a loan or something, I just need a vehicle, and if I could still keep my truck I would love that.

Thanks guys,
-Chris

so what is your up date still the same ok will it run good in neutral you need to see about getting a comprestion tester and see what that tells you and does it squeak when it is in gear and look to see if one of your wheels locked up so when you put it in gear that might hold you back just an idea let us know your up date

still the same deal.

in neautral it does it as well. give it gas and it will spudder to life, and the whole engine just shudders and it sounds like the head makes a lot of clanging.

i thought maybe a lifter or whatever is underthere. i checked the clearences and they're fine.

im just tired of not having a vehicle. so what kind of shop could fix it. i dont care how much to be honest. just please tell me what kind of shops deal with old mechanical engines. not the new electronics that you plug in and say "oh my transmission is dead. fix me!" on the screen.

thanks

Check independent shops that have gray haired mechanics. They will know about the old stuff. Probably enjoy working on it too.

well i've thought about a new engine. but we put like 1100 into the engine to get it fixed. so it'd be a waste to get a new one. and mine is all painted green and black to match my truck. :-( haha

Hmmm....it kinda sounds almost like maybe your cam gear spun on the camshaft, or your tensioner isn't working properly and the chain moved a tooth or 2. Or maybe a busted camshaft???

Too bad you weren't closer to me dude, I'd lend you a hand. Even if I couldn't fix it on the spot, I could probably be able tell you what's wrong and how to fix it.

You are about a 2 hr drive each way from me (and my daughter lives in the same town as you), and that's a helluva long way from my shop and tools. :(

Maybe one of the other guys from portland or vancouver can run over and take a look...

Yup it sure sounds like the timing chain is coming apart. Probably one of the guide broke( wore through) letting the chain get real loose.

Now the sad part QUIT RUNNING IT cause as of now it is repairable but it will tear everything up if you keep running it.

Pull the valve cover then check the chain you can us a long screw driver and go part way down the front cover and see if the chain is loose( i bet it is) or look down the cover and rock the crank back and forth.

As of right now the fix will be reasonable if you break it it will be expensive.

Oh and i did see a complete timing chain kit on E-Bay 2 days ago under LUV trucks. It's a good way to save some bucks. then get some help installing it and you will be back on the road in no time.
