OK, quick update. It looks like the G180(1.8,1817cc) and G200(1.9,1949cc) shared the same block, but the 1.9 simply had a larger cylinder diameter. This means that the head should swap over. Also, the parts came in from Matt Johnson (thanks to Ben for posting his stuff for sale in the classified section), so I now have the electronic ignition and Crane cam in my posession (both are new and look great). Well, pics are still to come, but i'll do my best to get them up soon. The machinist has been notified and is ready to go   !

Laterz...

Well, it may not look like much, but I think this is the one I'll be going with (pending the ok from the machinist).

Where should I start? Let's see bigger cam, rejetted Weber carb, header, larger displacement in the block (albeit not much, still larger), custom exhaust, and the list goes on. I'm not looking for speed on the road, though (you should already know that from the chat). You can, however come and see me off road anytime you'd like   ...

Edit: Oh yeah, and my ugly mug will make your 20r yelp like a kicked mutt!

Man you need to dump that 20R and go with a 22R. Bigger is better and according to my father and the original LUV truck guru in my family, "There is no substitution for cubic inches"

do sme port work on your head from what i`ve seen they could use some help. match up the intakes and the exhaust clean up the bowls a little. that will help with power some just dont get to aggressive with it you don`t want to lose your bottom end torque for 4 wheelin.

I thought about that, but it is so damn expensive to get head work done around here. Can I do this myself without screwing it up? I have a Dremel tool. What else would I need?

do not try to port your head w/ a dremel.....what you need is a air powered die grinder...a pressuer regulator......and a junk head to pratice on.

i use to have a link to a pretty good set of instructions for head porting.....but i dont know where it went :x .
i match ported my buick 3.8 heads myself

Well, the 1.9(G200) that I have turns out to be good. It has been honed and cleaned, so all I have left is to figure out the head problem, order new rocker arm for the cam install, get rings, get rod and main bearings, and crind the crank to .010 under. It's going to come together quick once I get the head figured out.

More to come...

OK, the crank came back today. The shop that I took it to has a gorgeous shop. It's a tractor repair facility. $65 to get the grind done, and it is beautiful. I ordered the rod and main bearings as well as the new rocker arms. $300 total today (ouch), and I just have to settle the bill for the parts cleaning/head work at NAPA (~$80). A new timing set, which I would like to get runs $130 for the 1.9 (double ouch). It looks like my early estimation of ~$600 for the total build is going to be right on. More to come...

Oh, and I still don't have a head. I guess I'll probably use the one off of my truck. Also, I have a set of white faced gauges (oil temp, water temp, and oil pressure) in the boxes that I'll let go for $80 + shipping to anyone that wants them. These are electrical gauges and cost me ~$100 + shipping. I bught them for my car, and decided not to install them. I wired up the lighting and did a test fit, but that is all they have been out of the box for. Let me know...

Link to the website for the gauges: http://www.acautotechnic.com/achome.html

Well, this was the last day of class for the term, and I only had one class, so I got some work done on the motor. I tanked, blasted, and painted the crank pulley, timing cover, and valve cover (this was the only thing tanked). I tanked and tumbled all the internal head components (rocker shafts, springs, washers, etc). I also got the block decked and washed (again). Alot of cleaning, but when the engine goes together its going to look awesome. This will probably be the best looking, and most professionally done, block that I've built. I also got the wrist pins lubed up and rings on the pistons. On Monday, I should be putting in bearings, pistons, and crank. The head will be here in about 2 weeks, and all that's left there is build up with the new cam, rocker arms, and clean parts. I'm going with a cast iron colored block and gloss black valve cover, timing cover, etc. I'll get pics on Monday (I hope).

More to come...

Finals were done yesterday! Today I have a short block. The crank and pistons went in today. BIG MILESTONE. :D The block is Cast Iron high temp paint and all the pulleys and covers are gloss black. It looks really nice. The head will be in my possession on Sunday and should go together on Monday. I am debating on whether I want to spend $500 on a Trooper tranny/xfer case. A lot of money, but a good investment. Anyway, the rest of the motor will hopefully be back together on Monday and pics will quickly follow. Practically every part on this project was bead blasted (down to the timing cover and oil pump bolts) so it should turn out pretty clean.

More to come...
