ok so heres the deal my '79 2wd luv was making a clattering sound in the 2.5-4k rpm range, and was near impossible to do more then 4krpm, so i checked the valve springs. i also thought maybe my timing was off because i idle around 1.5k, so i got out my light and turned the distributer till i was at 6BTDC, this dropped my idle to right below the 1k rpm mark. So i got in to test it out and every time i put my foot in it, it would back fire, and it felt very sluggish, but i was now able to take it past 4k rpm and there was almost no sign of the clattering noise. i checked my Haynes manual and it said to set time with the vac advance plugged, so i tried this again setting it at 6BTDC and as near to 900RPM as possible, i reattached the vac advance line and went for another test, my idle was back up around 1.5k but now i had snappy throttle response and it only bogged slightly when the secondary opened, alto now i had the same problem as before where i cant do more then 4k RPM without my engine sounding like its going to fall apart... I'm stumped, i have checked, tightened, rechecked, jiggled, wiggled, and finagled every thing, i even dropped a few f-bombs and still don't know whats wrong.
