I don't get on line with you folks often because time doesn't permit our Luv project to advance very quickly. I finally got the motor out of our '74 and dismantled it. It was not pretty. There were chunks of piston missing, gouges on the cylinder walls, and the top ring on the #1 and #2 piston were missing. I'm not sure if the head is any good either at this point. I think this thing is toast as I'm not sure even .60 over and a head trimin' would cure the damage.
For the few of you who I recall are in the Atlanta metro area, do you have any suggestions for replacement? We are on an extremely tight budget now, and have already purchased a new full gasket set for the 1.8 motor. Anyone have one for cheap? Or what else can bolt right in with little or no modification. We have a 4 speed manual. I know some of this is covered on the web site. Unfortunately my work schedule doesn't permit a lot of time to come out here and research.

Thanks guys!

You will be wanting any G180Z or G200Z motor.

Early RWD I-mark is G180Z, not sure on the chevette

An impulse or later pickup for a G200Z Or a really early trooper

If you use the G200Z and it does need to come apart your only out of pocket for a head gasket.

The later vehicles went from G200Z to 4ZD1 and 4ZE1 motors. They will fit but are different. Will bolt up to your 4 speeder but you need all the right mounts etc so it will go in the frame.

Personally, IMHO if you are looking for a decent used engine from a junkyard, I'd go for a non-turbo 1.9 G200 out of a mid '80's Impulse if you can find one. If not, a G200 out of a Pup would be my next choice, and a 1.8 G180 out of a Luv, Pup, or Imark would be my third.

The stock G180 puts out around 75 hp max, and the g200 is slightly higher (not much though), and the Impulse is a factory high performance motor that puts out around 100 hp.

If you can find a turbo'ed G200 Impulse engine, they put out around 135 hp max, and will fit in without very much trouble too, but you will lose some gas mileage.

But the ultimate big boy for a 4 banger Luv would be a 2.6 with a 2.3 carb intake (or with a 2.3 turbo setup) and the 2.3's ignition module/ distributor. Then you are getting closer to a 200 hp engine.

Try this site: http://car-part.com/ ...If there is anything available anywhere near you - they will no doubt have it listed.

Good luck and happy hunting!

I agree with your order.

The G200 in the Impulse is EFI for that 100hp. It has higher compression and sans EFI with a good carby and tune its still a lot more heathy than the pup G200.

They didnt make a 2.3L turbo. The 2.3L Impulse was non turbo.

If you can find one, the G200W twin cam out of a JDM Impulse would be the beez kneez.

I've been told that the G200's turbo can be adapted to the 2.3 - but I've never seen one done.

I've thought about building a 2.6/2.3 combo though once my Impulse G200 in my truck gets tired.

I just wonder what kind of hp a turbo'ed 2.6 would produce or if high performance parts like a cam, header, stiffer valve springs, etc are available for a 2.6.

It sure is a real shame that Isuzu only sold some stuff in certain countries, because you guys down under have a few things we can't get, and likewise we have a few things here that aren't available over there, and shipping stuf either way is just way too expensive.

Thanks for the assist guys. It gives me a direction to start. I don't want too much HP though as my 17 yr old will be driving. I'll try the web site too.

There's a guy in Hartwell with a 2.3 that needs a carb with tranny included. He went diesel.
He was asking $175 for it all a few months ago & got no responses.
I don't know if he still has it but it can't hurt to PM him & ask.

It wasnt the G200 that was turbo.

Its a bit confusing.

The G200Z was EFI in the Impulse.

The 4ZC1 was the 2L EFI Turbo in the Impulse.

The 4ZD1 was the EFI 2.3L in the Impulse.

I dont believe that in the US the 4ZC1 was available in any other RWD vehicles. Did you get the Isuzu Aska??? It was a FWD 'J' car i think it had the 4ZC1 Turbo in it.

You can put the turbo stuff off a 4ZC1 on a bigger motor but the manifold and turbo were at their limit on the 2L so your really better off starting out with custon gear. The masses of extra stroke work against you. 8mm+ increase in stroke.

What you cant do that works is put the Turbo stuff off a 4ZC1 onto a G200Z. You would want to start with a carby G200Z as the EFI versio has higher compression.

If the motor is not in a pup or trooper you will need the mounting gear to put it in a luv.
