Hello all... Wanted to start off by saying this site is very informative and I hope to gain a great deal of knowledge here... Now for my problem...

I have a 1987 Isuzu Pup with a magnetic pickup dist.. I installed a MSD HVC 6600 ignition and matching coil and now I have NO spark... This is a project truck that I removed the entire electrical system from and purchased a EZ wiring kit for.... I have a12volt constant to the ignition and a 12 ign hot to it, but my question is should I have 12 volts going to the coil at all times? Im not exactly sure how a magnetic pickup works... Could I just remove the ignition system completely get a stock coil and hook that up instead of the MSD... I don't need anything fancy just want it to run.... If anyone could describe to me how to make the coil work Id greatly appreciate it...

Is it just a keyed 12v to the coil + side and the - goes from the dist to the coil? Please explain this to me in detail.... THANKS IN ADVANCE and sorry so long... I am mechanically inclinded as redundant as that may seem...

The circuit is pretty straight forward, and you have the advantage of not messing with the fuel pump/ballast resistor circuit since you've got a custom harness.

If your distributor is stock, you should have a two prong pigtail on it. There should be a black wire with a colored stripe (probably yellow or orange) and a plain black wire inside the connector. You can identify which is which from the back of the connector. The black/yellow wire gets +12V from the coil and the black gets - from the coil. You may need to make a pair of jumpers to connect this up. Since this is an upgrade for most luv's, I just put an eyelet on the coil side and a female spade on the other. I used two wires, each about 14" long, fastened each eyelet to the secondary posts on the coil and the spade to the appropriate connector in the distributor pigtail.

From what you've described, you've already got the coil and key wired up, just add two wires to the secondary posts on the coil and plug them in to the pigtail on the dizzy. Make sure the primary (plug wire) from the center of the coil is hooked up, plug or connect the vacuum advance, set the timing, and that should be all you need to fire it up. :)

I drew this up in paint, it's sort of crappy but it gives you the idea.

Here's some pic's of what I think you are working with, let us know if it's not the same.

That picture and this post is what I was looking for....To make sure I understand you correctly....

The Black with whatever colored stripe goes to the coil + side then the ignition hot also goes to the + side of the coil...

The Black wire is the - and it goes to the - side of the coil.... It doesnt matter what coil I use any of them should work correct? Im going to try to get rid of the MSD since I really dont need it in the first place...

My fuel pump is mechanical... Do I need to add the resistor for the ignition + or no? I thought you needed a start + to the coil for initial startup and then a resisted ignition + for after startup.... Thanks

I have run my electronic ignition both with and without the ballast resistor. I think the ballast is primarily to keep from burning up the points. Since you (we) don't have points, I think it's just extra wiring you can do without. It might be a good idea to visit http://www.isuzupup.com/ forum and check in with those guys too. The '86 Pup I looked at in a wrecking yard a couple weeks ago had a stock electronic ignition and no ballast resistor.

Otherwise, I think you've got it. For starters, I would leave the MSD box out of the circuit. Let us know how it goes...
