i have a 79 luv and it was running like crap i was losing coolant and it was not leaking anywhere. so i changed the head gasket and while putting on the head i guess i messed up the timing. so me and my buddy are messing with it and he decides to move the cam with a flat head srcew driver by sticking it bewteen the peg that sticks out on the cam and the cam itself and starts to move when snap the peg broke free and broke off a piece of the cam and the piece fell down into the block!!!!! haha it sucks but idk. so i was wondering where can i get a rebuild kit cus i might as well do it cus i have to take it apart to get the metal chunk out. and if anybody has a running 350 by anychance let me know cus if i can find i want to put it in

Why a 350????

Buy a later model Pup/pickup and put the motor out of that in it. Or a RWD Impulse driveline.

Or a Chev V6.

Its only a light little truck, dont need much to get it cracking.

yup we like to go in straight lines. stopping....thats why they made parachutes lol but i have been looking around on the site and it seems to me that people just build up the stock motors which is pretty cool. so i think i might want to do that instead possibly turbo haha oh man all the rice burners around here would luv that haha

There is no replacement for displacement. You can build the hell out of a 4 cylinder to the verge of it not being very reliable for a daily driver or put a basically stock small block in and have about the same power. Then there are those of us who go overboard on building a small block and stuffing it in a LUV. If my LUV was a daily driver I would not have built the current engine the way I did, it would have been closer to stock with bolt on performance, i.e. intake, carb and a good ignition, overdrive trans and maybe a 10 inch rear rim and tire. This is the way I am leaning with the wifes 78 LUV, I am also considering a stock impulse turbo fuel injection with a overdrive trans and a stock rear end. Like I said whatever I do the the 78 it will be basically stock and reliable. If smog was not a issue, I would be dead set on a small block. Since smog is a big deal here in So.Cal I really am looking in on a Isuzu turbo fuel injection with computer controls, this will be my best bet on a reliable daily driver that is smog legal.

Makes a lot of sense.

Even a 2.3L or 2.6L EFI with no turbo.

Turbo is a bit of mucking about with the oil and water lines.

A 2.3L trooper is handy for a donor. Engine mounts, gearbox tie bracket with the hole for the clutch cable and the bigger alloy sump if you want it.

You can leave the whatever alternator and stuff on the front or use the Trooper stuff.

Im doing one at the moment, i took some pics and will post em up.

If you can turn, you aren't going fast enough. When you get ready to stop, pull the 'chute.

That's funny. I was at the dry lake bed today and the SCTA (southern california timing association) was all set up and running. These are basically the Bonneville salt flat people. One motorcycle went 229mph. 8O

And they only go in a straight line and use a chute to stop. :D
