I scanned and copied a few pics of some previous fishing trips. The geezers in the pics are of my pop and some of his friends, I'm doing the camera work. I know they aren't Luv's, but I've got the urge to go fishing.

This one is 42lbs. A blue catfish

This one is a 53 lb Flathead catfish.

2 coolers of catfish fillets one one trip

This another flathead, 56 lbs.

These are some redfish caught on a daytrip off the MS. Gulf coast.

what did you catch them on?

I went out fishing this weekend (yup I was sick thursday and friday..cough cough) and caught and only caught a good size walleye, probably 19-20 inchs or so, and a fairly decent small mouth.
I guess it was more than I expected because it has been so hot. I was more interested in what was in the cooler than the fish honestly...lol
Other than that is was just a bunch of small sun fish, no real keepers.

We usually use short throwlines around drifts in the river and at the mouths of creeks. Mostly use small perch. Hand sized perch and good sized mudcat seems to be the bait of choice for the big uns...

Here in LA, Catfish just aren't on the menus. We get a lot of sea fish, like Halibut and Sword Fish.
I was in Liberal KS. for a night once, and ordered the Catfish. It was delicious! I was very surprised. I always though Catfish was not a very tasty fish, just plenty of them and easy to catch. Boy was I wrong! I loved it.

The flathead is the best tasting in my opinion, but they aren't available commercially. Rondog, or anyone else for that matter, if you ever come my way we'll go to a catfish restaurant where i guarantee you'll hurt yourself.

Hey mytmouz -

The catfish place wouldn't be Jerry's (the igloo place) would it? If I am thinking correctly it's on hwy 49. They have some good catfish there for sure....

As far as fishing, I assume by the river you mean the MS river. You guys ever have any luck at Ross Barnett or on the Pearl???

Jerry's is a good one, probably my first choice. We caught the cats in the Big Black river, I stay out of the MS. river, I don't like to dodge the tugboats back wash. I live about 5 minutes from a boat launch on the Barnett, but I only fish there for white perch. The reason for that is the average catch of small to large is a lot more in the pearl/Barnett system compared to the big black. Size also, I rarely catch one in big black under a lb, while on the Pearl it takes 3 or 4 to make a pound.

Hmmm...never been on the Big Black. I haven't been on Ross Barnett in a long time either. It's a long trip from Meridian to make it over there. We used to go trotlining over there in the Pelahatchie Bay area when I was a kid, but I haven't been over there in a long time. I heard at one time that area had got taken over by some kind of vegetation. Do you know if it's still that way???

No kidding about the small catfish in the Pearl man. We've been the last couple of years and all the ones we catch are small. They eat really well, and I'd just as soon eat catfish whole anyway, but it takes alot from there to catch a mess big enough to warrant a trip over there from Meridian too. It's a whole lot cheaper to buy whole catfish from the store by the time you factor in gas, bait, etc....but it sure is more fun to catch em on a trotline or jug

The vegatation is lily pads, but they spray em now, so thre aren't as many. As far as the effort, I just like to catch'em, plus they taste better than the pond raised to me.

Thanks for the info. May have to go try them over there just for old times sake and to see how much things have changed. Probably been 20 years since I've been to Pelahatchie Bay.
