I just have to wrap a few speaker wires, put my chrome chevy logo spinners on my wheels, get my adapter for my flexi-fan machined out to the size of my water pump nose, paint my other hood without the scoop for running around in the rain, touch up my door jams, and it's done.

But here it is so far:

The exterior paint is a combo of royal blue, gloss white, and aluminum silver. (Yes it's rustoleum - but I used my compressor and shot it.) The interior paint is aqua/black splatter paint, and the bed interior paint is gloss black with aqua/black splatter paint over that. As paint jobs go...I'd give it about a 7 - but hey...I shot it in my back yard for under $150.00.

Not bad for an old fart....huh?

Thanks everyone!

I just try to do the best I can with what few tools and skills I have. No more - no less.

The whole thought process behind the paint and the trim was to do a serious "very old school" type finished product. Mixing the silver aluminum with the high gloss paint gave it a nice semi-gloss slightly textured mildly metallic type of finish which turned out really well.

If I had wanted it to really shine and have a serious high-gloss type of finish, I could have wet sanded it and buffed it a lot more, then over shot it with clear, and it would have done that. However, looking back at a lot of cars from the 30's and 40's, they were nice looking, but didn't have that real clear-coated and high-polished look that all of the new cars have.

So I opted for a nice shiny satin finish that isn't quite silver, and isn't quite blue either. And besides, a trademark of every single vehicle I have done for over 30 years is to be as different from the rest of the pack of similar vehicles as I can.

Plus...all of the newer cars (and sadly a lot of the hot rods I have seen lately) is to paint over all of whatever used to be chrome, or to eliminate it as much as possible.

I decided to rebel against all of that and bring chrome back.

So I am a man on a mission - I have a counter full of more chrome goodies yet to go on the exterior/interior of this truck, and I fully intend to do my level best to drown it in as much chrome as I can.

So I'm open for suggestions from everyone here...because simply put - without you great bunch of folks...this truck wouldn't even exist. If any of you folks can think of any more chrome goodies to add to this project - please...by all means - don't be shy!

And Cat, as for the old prop-job riveted airplane look of the fasteners for the visor and the chevy logo - that was done by using screws with snap-over covers.

That was my wife's idea, and so was attaching the old antique chevy metal shop sign to the tail-gate for the chevy logo. And just to give credit where credit is due - she was out there in the shop through this whole process with me every single day...groanin', sweatin', and cussin' without uttering a single complaint. A man truly couldn't ask for anything more.

(And she got to take it for a spin around town first. After all she paid her dues and she sure as hell earned that!)

It's been a long hard 2 years to get it this far, and much thanks to all of you folks here that helped and contributed!

I truly could not have done this without all of you!

And a special thanks goes out to Larp because I'm still totin' around his free Chevy Luv fender logos from the first day I logged on here and he said hello, to Catmandu for giving me the inspiration to do this truck, and to Ben for still being my freakin' hero.

Oh yeah - I almost forgot....

Fullaluv - eat your heart out - wherever you're hiding your big home-made pizza-eating, parts-mooching, yellow-truck-drivin', PITA butt these days....WOOT!!

very nice, i really like the look of your truck. you know nothing says "old school" like a wood floor in the bed and it would also be a way to put more chrome on your truck :D

p.s. where did u get the headlight bezels and the seats

Cat...My truck is a '78 and I would be honored to have you show my pics online. Plus if you have any emblems or anything else that I can add to my truck to improve it, please show me a pic or 2 and I would be more than happy to discuss them with you.

Canti...I thought about doing a wood/chrome bed floor, but I decided to eventually do a metal cover for the bed with hinges up front and a locking latch at the tailgate instead. Where I live in Washington it tends to rain a lot, and wooden beds just don't last long.

And the headlight bezels are stock with the paint stripped off by using a rag and some acetone. (The folks at GM have been painting over chrome stuff for years...lol) The headlight visors I got on ebay cheap, and the seats and seatbelts are out of a '91 Nissan Pathfinder.

BTW...the expressive reflectors are dollar store hand-shaped reflectors with the fingers creatively trimmed to give the proper message to tailgaters, and the boob-shaped fuzzy dice my wife got at Spencer's at the local mall.

And to everyone else...thanks for your kind words and I'll keep you all posted as I add more to this project.

(But since my truck aint yellow, and I'm not in love with my digital camera...don't worry Ben - this thread aint gonna turn into a 50 page personal blog...lol)

WOW Taz!! That looks great. Very nice. Your hard work is obvious and it paid off, so now go for a drive and enjoy that "new" truck. 8)

hard work

You must be referring to the hours I spent fixing the busted-up back fenders, patching rust holes, sanding away rust, welding and grinding on the tailgate/rollpan, and fixing dings, dents, and chips all over the darn 30 year old thing.

If I'd had any brains - I would have just taken it to Maaco or Earl Scheib...lol

I just painted the other hood and my door jams, added some more chrome stuff, stuck some chevy logo spinners on my wheel centers, and dressed up my speaker wires. As soon as I put the other hood on, I'll take a few more pics.

I gotta wait 24 hours for the hood to dry completely before I can put it on. It's starting to get cloudy out and sprinkle a little rain once in a while, so no more running around with an open hood scoop ducted to my air filter on my carb...lol
