This just makes me sick of California Politics.
Please read and contact your congressman, they vote again on
August 20th!!!!!

Here is the site I read this in: http://www.semasan.com/main/main.aspx?id=62246

California Bill to Require ANNUAL Emissions Tests for Vehicles
15-Years Old Moves to Senate Appropriations Committee
Legislation (A.B. 616) to require annual Smog check inspections for vehicles 15-years old and older has been approved by the California Assembly and the Senate Transportation Committee. The bill now moves to the Senate Appropriations Committee for consideration on August 20th. A.B. 616 would also require that funds generated through the additional inspection fees be deposited into an account which can be used to scrap older cars. You may recall that in 2004 a new law was enacted in California to require the lifetime testing of all 1976 and newer model-year vehicles. Pre-1976 motor vehicles would remain exempt under A.B. 616.

We Urge You to Contact Members of the Senate Appropriations Committee (List Below) Immediately to Oppose A.B. 616

A.B. 616 ignores the minimal impact vintage cars have on air quality.

A.B. 616 could entice vintage car owners into allowing these vehicles to be scrapped.

A.B. 616 ignores the fact that vehicles 15-years old and older still constitute a small portion of the overall vehicle population and are a poor source from which to look for emissions reduction.

A.B. 616 ignores the fact that classic vehicles are overwhelmingly well-maintained and infrequently driven.

A.B. 616 would increase costs by creating an annual inspection fee for owners of these vehicles.

A.B. 616 represents another attempt by California legislators and regulators to scapegoat older cars.
Please contact members of the California Senate Appropriations Committee immediately by phone, fax or e-mail to request their opposition to A.B. 616.

Please e-mail a copy of your letter to stevem@sema.org. Thank you for your assistance.

California has its low-points with some of the beauricratic nonsense, but Hotrodding still lives down here in Southern California, and if you have never experienced that, you haven't experienced anything.

And if this did go through, all the rods will still be here, but have Nevada plates on them.

I've lived here my whole life, and I know you kind of kid. I understand and probably agree with all the reasons a lot of people won't live here. But there are good reasons to live here too. For me one of them is... this is and always has been home.

Depending on where my kids settle down some day will determine if I retire here or not.

California does have a lot of nice weather in most of the state, higher paying jobs, and less natural disatsters. Don't think we get hurricanes or tornados.

I still think people have the power to stop the policticans. After listening to talk radio, I helped to stop that Amensty bill they wanted to pass.
I had a list of all the policticnas voting for it, and I went through and faxed them. Sometimes the lines were busy for a long time and this is in the evenign after 7PM! I think if the polictians get the message, they are too afriad of being voted out of office and will back down.
Thats just my 2 cents.

Don't forget email or call the politicians. Tell them you will vote them out of office if they pass this smog bill.
Thanks! 8)

Well I may have good news. I went to fax and email those state senators. My emails got returend and the faxes had no reponse. I am thinking they are overwhelmed with reponse. Now there are other issues going on, so its hard to tell what the real reason is for.

A week ago at the Auburn Car show I had photocopiued the article I read and past out copies of it. The article was from SEMA (Speciality Equipment Market Association). There are some big names in California with Hot Rods. I'm thinking that they promted this at Hot August nights last week. It is not a gurantee, but I figure if you had some rich guys get together they could fight this with lawyers.
