Hey RICK if you are still scratching your head on your cooling problem drive it over here to Fruitland and let me take a look at it while you look at the fan shroud i built for my truck. There are also other factors that could be creating your heating problem. As i have a much bigger motor in my truck it will start to heat in stop and go traffic but as soon as i get moving it will cool right back down.Or maybe we can have a meet some place and check our trk's out?

The radiator guy might be right. The three and four core radiators do have more surface cooling area, but they are also more restrictive. V8 Vega's used to have the same problem. G.M. solved it on the V8 Monza with a restrictor in the thermostat housing and going to a good tight shroud and double core radiator instead of a triple core. The V8 Monza's also came with a short waterpump with more fins on the inside and a smaller outside diameter pulley which you could not see because of the shroud G.M. installed on the car. As far as the blown head gaskets on the four cylinders go, it was so bad here in south Texas, where you have to have ac that the local dealerships just gave up. They were offering killer deals on trading up to a bigger truck probably backed by G.M. In 1978 I was driving a 74 with a sbc 350/powerglide because of the head gasket problem.

TJ I really would like to see a meet with everyone sometime soon. It would be nice to meet you and see your truck. Thanks for the offer to look at the truck. I can't work on it much through the week, but I will be back at it on Saturday. I know the 3 core radiator looks like it is a lot harder to get the air threw. Hopefully by the end of the weekend I will have this solved, or getting closer to the answer.  Rick

go with a aluminum radiator you can get a small 1 for about $130.00
get a good E fan to go with it.

I have been in your shoes . Make sure your pulleys are close to the same size . Last months Car Craft helped me out , they sad you need like 1.11 to 1 ratio to move the water correctly . I pulled the water pump pulley off my 68 Camaro and no more cooling problem . I had an aluminum set up and I think it was underdriven .

Thats a good point too. When I got my serpentine setup it was WAY overdriven on the water pump pulley, and would overheat slowly but surely. Got a pulley closest to 1:1 I could fine and no more problems.
