HELP!! :(

I sold my little Ford (yes I said Ford...lol) shorty school bus/motor home and bought an older 22-foot Chinook motor home with Mopar (yes I said mopar...lol)) running gear that is in real great shape - but I've run into a small snag.

It has the ugliest 16-inch gray wheels on it with crumby looking rusted up chrome lug nuts, so I bought a set of stainless wheel covers for it. The only problem is, the damn chrome lug nuts are too long and stick out so far that the wheel covers won't go on the front wheels. :?

I managed to find a set for one side, but the other side has reverse threaded lug nuts on it ( - I hate you chrysler corporation) and I can't seem to find them anywhere.

What I need is a bunch of 5/8, 18 pitch, reverse-threaded stock lug nuts. If anybody out there knows where I can get a set or has any...PLEASE let me know.

I would think small mom and pop auto parts stores could order them. Or I would think tire shops would be able to get them. You might even try motor home places, like Camping World, or shops/dealers that deal in dually stake bed trucks.

How about U Haul's shop. Or another rental place might at least know where you could get them. They probably used them in some of the bigger moving trucks.

Really what I mean to say is the F(ord) word was ok... but Mopar is not allowed around here. I feel a banning on the way again.

You can probly get them or order them at normal car parts places.
They used reverse threads on the right side on late 60's high power Mopars (the Hemi era).
Your local Chrysler dealer if you have to.
When I worked for Winnebago we sent customers to the dealership for drivetrain issues.
We were responsible for the "house" systems - LPG, deep cycle batteries, clean & dirty water tanks, etc.

As a side note, a friend installed 1 LH thread stud on each corner as a cheap but effective wheel theft deterent.

A friend of mine that works for Discount Tires (he's the one that got me the stainless wheel covers at his cost) called all over hell trying to find some and all he could find is the long chrome ones like I already have. I even tried the local Schucks and Autozone and they can't find them either. :(

The running gear is the same as a 70's era big Dodge 300 series truck or schoolbus and I guess the problem is that no one wanted the stock ones, so nobody stocks them anymore. No junkyards around here have anything that big either.

It's kinda driving me a bit crazy(and we all know that's gonna be a short journey)...lol

It's really a great looking old motorhome, and me and the wifey are fixing it up nice inside - but those ugly-ass gray wheels just look like crap, and they have just got to get covered up.

(And yes, I aready checked on what it would cost to get custom wheels for it, and trust me - you don't want to know!)

BTW Ron, I only paid $3500.00 for it with 90,000 original miles, and it has a new stove w/an oven, a new stainless double kitchen sink, a new fridge, a new furnace , a full shower and toilet, two 40 gal water tanks, a new extra-large hot water heater, an extra-large septic storage tank, a built-in generator, a 16 gal propane tank, duel stainless 20 gal fuel tanks...plus the motor was re-done 3 years ago, the tranny was rebuilt 2 years ago, and the rear-end, wheel bearings and u-joints were just done 6 months before I got it.

All of it is set up to run off 12 volts (with isolated dual deep cycle 12 volt batteries), it's own onboard generator, 110 volt house current, or propane. 8)

It has no leaks and never has because it was always stored inside unless it was being used, and with a Chrysler 413 industrial engine, it has more than enough power to climb any hills with.

But the best part is it just old enough for me to get car collector's license plates for it from the state that cost me a one-time fee of around $50.00 and then I won't ever have to buy tabs for it again!

Me and the wifey are in the process of re-tiling the floor outside the bathroom and kitchen area and re-doing the bathroom door - so as soon as it's done, I'll take a few pics to show you all.

Yeah Tj, I could probably do that, but then I would have to do all of the wheel studs on that side to keep from confusing myself... :D

And that would also be a huge PITA, but I may just have to if I don't find some lug nuts for the darn thing soon.

With my luck though, the studs will be even harder to find. :(

How about having the chrome ones machined to the right height?

That may be my last resort.

If it doesn't cost too much, I might just have some machine shop whack off the rounded ends of the chrome lug nuts I have now.

This is just crazy...lol

I never thought it would be so darn hard just to find a few lug nuts.

Tazman, I had the same problem on a 1970 M300 series motorhome I used to own. The OR rain finally got the best of it.

Anyway, call a couple of RV wrecking yards. There is a guy here in Eugene who has handfuls of these lugnuts, I'll see if I can find his number. Or you could try these guys, they aren't too far from you...

http://www.olywa.net/singletonsrv/parts.html

Good luck, I didn't know I had left hand threads until I'd broken the makeshift breaker bar in the rain, in the dark, halfway down the coast range...too bad I didn't see the 1/2" tall 'L' stamped into the stud...duh...

Thanks, but Singleton's was one of my first calls and they don't have any. :(

I did get a few other items I wanted though - for a hefty price. (It seems that if you are the only person for miles that has certain stuff, then you don't have to worry too much about fair pricing.) :?

If the folks that own RV wrecking yards down in Oregon have any....that would be great. If you can get me their website address or their phone #, I sure would appreciate it.

Thanks a bunch!

Can't seem to find the number I'm after, but I've used these folks too...

Northwest RV Supply (541) 746-9092 http://www.nwrvsupply.com

There is a decent sized RV boneyard in Island City, OR too. Basically, La Grande. I know he's got several 70's class A's out there. Maybe you can do a google on wrecking yards out there, I'm not sure there is any indication of RV parts in the name of the yard though.

Still looking for that local number. The guy has an old RV boneyard out in southeast Eugene, sort of a mom & pop place. When I get a bit more time, I'll look harder, maybe make a few calls. Have you visited any of the M300 motorhome sites online? I think there is a big yard in southern Idaho, sort of like the one here in Eugene. There is also a place in Rickreal, OR that might have these. I think it's called 'By the Way RV' or something similar.

Working my butt off, sorry I can't be more help at the moment...

Thanks a lot nuke!

I just did a google search and found a bunch of m300 used parts places to check with, so it's time to wear out the cell phone I guess.

Wish me luck...lol
