I pulled the new carpet up and went a different route . The carpet I put in was from a 60's ford truck I cut to fit . I did not like the way it moved around and didn't fit right . So i pulled it . I was at the auto parts store ( imagine that , know everyone on first name basis ) and was looking for some mats and saw this thin black carpet they sell in a roll for $11 . I picked it up and a can off 3m 77 adhesive and went to town . I formed and glue everything and trimmed it exacty to fit . It looks good and fits good and does not slide around . I'll try and post pics tommorrow . I'm not driving the truck right now as it's full of 110 octane in preperation for the big race on saturday . I also found out that with a street tire ,instead of a front runner race tire , my reaction times are back and i'm not pushing through the lights . I bring in the pre stage light the ease up on the motor as i'm going into the stage light ( courtousy staging of coarse ) and I can get this thing to really leave . I also rebuilt the idler arm . I have 8 new idler arm bushings if some one needs them .

Is that the idler arm to frame bushings? I need 1 set, maybe 2. How much? I haven't even looked out here yet. I just know my 80 is sloppy and I need to do it soon.

Dang, what's causing you to go through so many convertors?

Horsepower, torque, and traction. 8)

Actually, I was wondering the same thing.

:? I don't understand how you can be going through so many converters as we had one in are car for 4 years in a 3100 Nova leaving at 5400rpm's at 16 lbs boost 1st with a T350 then 3 years with a glide. The converter was still in new condition when we went to blowen alky. and didn't need that much stall.I now have it but it's to high for my Buick engine as i shift between 5500-6000 max, so a have been saving it for another project.I thought just come to me when we first put it in the stater broke and we had it redone ( in Boise Id.) and i think it no has a steal stater in it witch do not break.

Let's start from scratch . I had a tranny that I did a home rebuid , due to lack of money , and an ebay Hole shot 3000 that stalled at 2900 . I had 235/60/15 BFG drag radials . The truck went 1.62 60' . I went to 26x8.5x15 M/T slicks . My 60' slowed . I put a 3200-3800 Boss hogg in it . It slowed down . I had the trans rebuilt by a good shop . I pulled the B&M and put a J-9 trans king in . I thing it's broken . I am finally going back to the 300 stall . If it goes faster I will go back to drag radials . If it does not , I will cut it up , put bars in it , ladder bar it and "force it " to go fast .

Your experience sounds like mine, everything I do to make it go faster it goes slower. Now I am doing what you are doing, backtracking :x Isn't this fun :D

Are you foot braking or trans brake? what was the hight size difference between the drag radials and the slicks? And maybe your motor don't like the higher launch rpm's .Just something to think about.

I am foot braking , as you have to go full manual for a trans brake . The drag radials were 235/60/15 , slicks are 26x8.5x15 so no real change there . I have just had some bad luck with converters . I am going back to a 3000 stall and drag radials maybe a 255/60/15 this time to take a little gear out of it . Bigger fuel line from the sumped fuel tank will help out too.

I am finding that converters are rated in 3200 lbs cars with 250 ftlbs of torque . Most are off by 600-750 rpm . 5500 foot brake conveter stalls at 4200 . 2800-3200 @ 2400 , 32-3600 @ 2600 . Every converter is different . I WILL find the right one .
