crane cams also has a conversion.
it has an optical trigger inside the "dizzy" to replace the points.

xr700 or xr3000
I have the xr700 but i havnt been able to get it running yet due to weather and flat out laziness, but the weather is getting better, we will see it that helps. :smt033

Diesel ing at shut down is usually caused by a hot eng. (warmer than normal not overheating) and the idle to high.

Never had an MSD setup make it run hotter. The dieseling may be from the power lead giving feedback to the MSD box, but usually when this happens the engine will not shut off at all when the key is turned off.

Have a Pertronix setup on order, the dizzy route was higher priced from parts places online. No yards near me had one for pull.

Man oh man!!

Just got the Pertronix Ignitor installed, took some doing but man what a payoff...I can now start mine with no pre-start accelerator pumping, fires up instantly and settles on 900 rpm, no chug, no sputter, miss, backfire all the way up as high as I dared to go in the 7000rpm range. Takes a hill with a little more umph now. And best of all NO dieseling shutdowns, even if I rev the engine a little and shut it off. And never having to replace, regap points again!!.

Anyone still having idle, miss and other timing/points related issues and sick of dealing with it...get a Pertronix Ignitor or similar. I can only vouch for the Pertronix. Just get your dizzy make and model and give em a call, chances are they make one for your setup.

I am also running it with an MSD 5200 and Blaster coil. Sweet combo

Had a situation yesterday, that I think can attest for the toughness of the Rustoleum DIY paint job I did a couple months ago...

A friend ad I were out at his deer lease clearing some more mesquite trees. We're winding out way slowly through the pasture and coming up is a group of trees that I have pre determined which route I'm gonna take through them, plan was to take this one particular low hanging branch a little wider. Well a few deer caught our attention, and naturaly I looked and watched em bound away into the brush... all of a sudden there's this horrible scraping, screeching noise filling the cab, I had drifted right up under that branch. My first thought is "holy shit!!!, way to go meat-head!!"

I stop, we get out expecting to find it gouged down to bare metal. In case yall didn't know, mesquite is a very hard wood covered in equally hard 1,2, & 3" thorns.

I hopped into the bed to inspect the cab damage, neither one of use could find so much as a scratch... just few spindly leaves and twigs in the bed.

Try that with a CC job :)

Dontcha Luv it 79?
Even showing ppl my car most don't want to believe the roller method works.
Either, "Shoulda done metallic" or "The shine won't hold up over time."
It's mine & I'm happy as a clam with the results.
From a few golf ball encounters I can back you up on the toughness/durability of this finish to damage ol' lodge bro.

Chased down the UPS gal this morning, rushed to the shop to get the new Weber 34/34 installed. Was a fun install inspite the weak instructions. Hooked up the throttle linkage and fuel line, plugged a few now unecessary vacuum hoses, put on the air cleaner few cranks and vrooom!!

Only had to slightly adjust the idle screw, purring again at idle, now has a little roar going down the street. Can definatly tell a difference, has a better sound to it, even with the stock exhaust. Pacesetter header is next, hopefully in a few weeks.

Just a little suggestion for when you get around to installing your header.

I had my collector flange cut off and had a home-made reducer put on and then had my exhaust welded directly to that. It's a pain in the butt if you need to unhook the exhaust because you will have to cut and re-weld it. But, there are zero worries about speed bumps or anything else constantly banging or rubbing on your collector and causing any problems or an annoying exhaust leak, and the darn collector won't be in the way if you want to work on your truck.

(Plus it's one less gasket to buy or replace...lol)

I had a local muffler shop do mine and the whole thing only cost me around $50.00-$75.00 total.

Thanks for the advance tipage Taz. Will keep that in mind. Hopefully I am high enough to miss even the most brutal speed bumps :)

But, yeah that mod sounds great for reducing rattling and leakage, lord knows my 4x is plenty rough enough on poor roads. And we have plenty here.

Friggin sweet!!

Re-did my door panels yesterday. Tore em out and cut new ones from some fiberboard(or something)... Replaced the vinyl sections with new, got from walmart. It's a burgandy shade that is a near perfect match with my headliner and door handles. but it kinda clashed with the red of the door itself, so I got to poking around Autozone and found some Duplicolor vinyl/carpet spray paint. was skeptical at first, tried it on a test piece of vinyl, let it dry. Man awesome stuff, doesn't make the material stiff and haven't been able to wipe or scrape it off.

Also took the center cloth section out, threw it in the washing machine... man it was as nasty as a 27 year old piece of door panel cloth :)
After that, I noticed time had taken it's toll on what used to be a nice shade of red, so I ran back to Wallyworld for some RIT dye(red), followed the directions, gave it a good soak and frequent stir for about 30 minutes, rinsed, & dried. Looks like new!!

Will post some pics after work.

 When the eng., trans., and seat were out of my 80, I towed it to work and put it on the steam rack. Steam cleaned the whole underside and eng. compartment. Then was going lightly on the inside, I got brave and hit the door panels. Wow! nasty dirt water ran from them. They dried just fine and all is well. :D

Anyone still interested in the $50-$100 paint process, check this site out. Couple guys from the HUGE MOPARts forum put up one to post process, materials and a few results. Alot easier to read.

Well I was trapped in my shop most of the weekend. Tinted the windows, added a new seat cover... fits nice after removing the seat first

Got realy bored, and removed/repainted my stock wheels, look purdy

Got realy realy bored, and tired of looking at the faded usta be red seat belts, took those out and dyed them red. too easy.

And it looks like mother nature has lightened up on the rain for a change, so I gave the LUV a good wash and good coat of wax.
