So my 79 didn't come with a horn, the guy took it out or something. but I was at a U-pull-it like 2 weeks ago and found a wrecked like.. 76 or 77 im not sure, it was extremely sad, but I took the horn from it :-p, and My wiring for the horn doesn't work, so can someone tell me how to re-wire?

Would the haynes manuals have it in there? I just realized that so im gonna check, but any help is great.

Thanks guys.

I had a problem with my horn not working and it ended up that the steering wheel would not ground out to the steering column, but the column was grounding to the frame, so I ended up taking a thin spring from a plate hanger and attached it from the steering wheel to the steering column . Now I have a horn.
The previous owner had taped a horn button on the steering column and hook a wire from a 12 volt source to the button and ran it to the horn.
I didn't like that ugly look and wanted it to work correctly from the factory as much as possible.

my horn button is actually on the side of the steering wheel, as part of the dash. and im not sure if the wires got cut along the route somewhere, as its covered with tape.

this is hard for me to try and explain, so bare with me and tell me if this will work.

if i could route a wire from the button, pos. terminal, to the battery pos. then routed another wire from the botton, pos. terminal to one side of the horn itself. then grounded the button, and grounded the horn. when i press the button will it connect the circuit or w/e and blare the horn?

I'm going to try it but I'd like to get some advice first incase i short out something. haha I just need a horn, my cherry bomb popping at people at 3200 rpm's isn't workin out great, it just scares the s@#t out of them. haha

thnx again guys.

Usually the horn will work off of a relay. The button will connect the ground to the relay. The relay will then send + down to the horn.

You can use any horn off any vehicle, make sure the horn is good, get some wire and wire the horn and then touch the battery.

so i've been trying since the day i got this horn off of another luv in a junk yard (poor luv) and I STILL can't get it to work, I have no idea if I'm wiring it right or anything, I just want to see if the horn works, then I'll worry about wiring it later.

I've put a ground on one tab of the horn, and then touched a side with a wire hooked to the + of the battery.

and nothing.

I've wired the tab to the negative side of the battery, then the other tab to the positive side, and still nothing.

Is the horn bad? or am I just an idiot and hooking it up wrong.

Thanks guys

You can test the horn... put the leads directly on the battery...beep is good, no beep is no good

You can buy a cheap horn at the parts store ya know

If it is a stock horn like on my 78, mine quits working every so often (think it corrodes up). There is a screw on the back side of it with a nut on it, I have to loosen the nut and adjust the screw a turn or two (cant remember in or out) and tighten the nut back down and the horm beeps loud and clear again.

Every time mine starts acting up I just smack it a few times with a screwdriver handle and squirt a little WD40 in it and it starts working again.

I firmly believe that should be the official GM/Isuzu method of repair for all of their horns...lol
