Last time i talked to luvondope he told me he has a stock 75 engine and tranny....He lives in Baytown Tx. I thought about getting it and haveing the joy of rebuilding it just to see the guts and see really how much different it is than a 80s model! But help yourself...i dont think he is asking alot. Not sure if the engine would work in a 4x4 though.

Me: Hmm, what a nice day for a drive in the LUV. Look at that, my temp is rising a bit on the hot side, I wonder why.

LUV: hey guess what new interesting noise I can make?

Me: uhh, not sure if I want to ask.....

LUV: tick tick tick tick....

Me: erm, stop please

LUV: hehe tick tick tick tick tick tick..... tack tack tack tack tack tack....

Me: OK this is not funny. What's going on?

LUV: ohh, watch this, this is my favorite.....tack tack tack tack TACK TACK TACK TACK CHUGA CHUGA CHUGA TACK TACK TACK TACK TACK CHUGA CHUGA....

Me: ACK! WTF is going on? That sounds like a stuck.... crap now look what you're doing, your overheating!!

LUV: uhh, that wasn't supposed to happen.... TACK TACK TACK CHUGA CHUGA (pshhhhhhhhh) TACK TACK TACK CHUGA CHUGA.......

Me: Aww great.

LUV: sorry I can't stop myself now! Hehe. TACK TACK TACK TACK CHUGIDA CHUGIDA CHUGIDA....... CHUGIDA..... PSHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH........

Me: You little bastard!!

LUV: hehe :P

OK so if you couldnt tell, my truck has been having a wierd temp problem for a few days lately, then an exhaust valve got stuck last night and I am now running on 3 cylinders. And for some reason it REALLY REALLY REALLY wants to overheat now. Or maybe it was the other way around and the valve was getting stuck before hand. Kind of hard to say with it running like such crap lately. It got pretty warm, so I dont know if the whole motor is shot, but it was not smoking when I turned it off. I will see later on tonight after I get home from work. :?

LOL! Funny description. :)

Hope you and your LUV start getting along (in other words, I hope you fix it or it fixes itself).

I am suprised! It sounded real smooth when i heard it 2 weeks ago. Colin has a motor thats like yours but it needs a rebuild. Pull the head and drop the pan and see whats wrong.

"drop the pan" means pull the motor doesn't it? At least, that's what I thought on a 4x4...

Yep pretty much.

BTW, I think I need to make a correction in my diagnosis. I pulled the valve cover off and the valve train looks intact. There are no broken springs and the valves move freely. The cam also looks good. Also I started it up without the air filter assembly on, and it is pulsing a fine white mist out of the intake. The crankcase air is also doing this pressure - vacuum -pressure pulsing thing. Looks like I have a piston with a hole in it. >edit< Or I blew a head gasket.

If you have a pulsing action in the crankcase breather, you have a piston/ring problem. You gotta pull the motor whether you rebuild or replace the engine. I still can't believe it. It ran great when i saw it.

Well, it looks like I blew a head gasket. Also the radiator looked like it was getting all kinds of junk stuck in it from the engine (had been sitting for a while). Good thing I had just installed the second fan when this thing started to overheat, or I might have burned up the motor too. The mechanic has it all back together now and says it is running good. Looks like the weird issues I had with the thing running rough at higher RPMs were head gasket related. I wont have a chance to drive it myself until next weekend, but my dad is driving it around giving it some good test driving. The real test is when I make the trip back in it from Brownwood to Austin!

So I had the head gasket (among others) replaced, head resurfaced, and radiator rodded, and all put back together for $260. Not too bad. I was expecting more, considering I also thought the motor was trashed.

It's good to hear the good news! But not to be a joy-kill, have you made any progress on the whiney noise from your trans case/axle?

Blue,

I am almost certain that it is the rear differential now. The input bearings on the Pinion shaft have way too much play in them. Plus when I changed the diff lube, there was such a conglomeration of fine metal shavings on the magnetic drain plug that I first thought I had muddy silt in my diff. I know where there is another axle, I just need to get it and put in on the truck. I hope that does the trick. Its pretty loud and annoying. I will keep ya'll posted on the progress.
