yep...

i have the bug.

i was getting gas last saturday, and the guy in front of me in line noticed the luv out at the pump and tells me hes got one like it for sale. so i got his number and he told me where it was, as so i could look at it.

go look at it, and come to find out its a 2nd gen luv. an 81 to be exact. march of 81 to be even more exact. this truck is like one of the first 2nd gens to roll off the line.

anyways, i picked it up today for $150 with a title, and running. the tranny is shot, and the most of the body is hammered but it runs, all the glass is good, the doors are good, and most of the interior is good.

and for the best part. its got the electronic ignition in it thats got the igniter coil thats needed to swap it to a older luv.

now im going to finally admit to why i bought this truck.

the luvs engine developed a rod knock today on the way home from work. its not bad yet, but i have a feeling its going to get really bad here in a few days. im hopin if i baby it, itll last till next weekend, so i can have this week to pull the engine from the 81. then next saturday after work, pull the engine from the 77 and put the 81s motor back in.

but anyways, heres some pics of the ugly beast.

well i got this truck running a little better yetserday. the #2 and #3 plug wires were swapped, so i put them back to normal and the miss it has mostly went away.

im starting to think it has a bent or burnt valve though. it pops out of the carb sometimes when i give it gas. i think the timing it way the hell off to. im also thinkin the cam timing is off a tooth.

so im gonna try and get this figured out and get ready to swap the engines.
