 Post subject: Headlight Question...
PostPosted: Fri May 02, 2003 8:53 pm
Hey Guys,

Got my Luv about a month ago, and I dont have any low beams. They come on with the brights, but not by themselves. The passenger side one worked for about 10 minutes the first night I had it, but went out. Anyone had a similar problem? Or any suggestions?

Thanx

Tod :D

Could be your bulbs are burned out. Even if you have a 4 headlight system, there is 2 elements in the low beam headlight. A low beam element, and high beam. I know this to be true on american cars, so I would check here first. Put in a new low beam headlight and see if that fix's the problem.

Thanx Rick :) I was unaware that the low beams had both high and low in them.

John, your blinkers should have no effect on your headlights. I hade to rework the whole blinker system on mine, and the only way they were even remotely related is when the headlight switch is in the "running lights" position. Just my .02

Your welcome, hope it fix's the problem. I went through the same problem with a 73 Dodge Challenger I had. Took me a little bit to figure it out, but that was it.

the blinker switch has a lot to do with the headlights. the only way to remove the turn singnal assembly and have the headlights work is if you run a remote dimmer switch. i bought a floor mounted switch for mine and it works like a charm. i don't have the schematics on hand but if you need help figuring out the wirring let me know and i will get the info to you.

If you're referring to the switch assembly, then yes, I agree with you (I wasn't referring to the switch assembly when I made that statement). I was talking about the fact that, when I got my truck, the previous owner had the parking lights on one switch, each directional circuit on its own switch, and jury rigged wiring throughout the tuck. With my schematic in hand, I traced the factory circuit and found that the entire wire run was frayed and practically welded to the frame. The high and low beams on the truck worked the whole time. My original statement was that the circuits (wiring, continuity, etc.) are completely independent of each other. However, you are right, at the switches they are mechanically tied together. Good catch!
