Sorry. My Haynes book doesn't say.
Is it low or empty?
Is it R12 or R134A?
You may need to evacuate the system before you recharge it.
Do you already know all this and I'm just bugging you? :D
I know just about enough about A/C units to be dangerous. :D

rondog, Long bed if that helps any
I am replaced the compressor with a reman. unit and it made an awful knock from the beginning. It's been since last August since I replaced it so I don't remember how much oil to put in it. There is no sticker on the compressor. I don't know how to figure out how much oil to put in since there will be some still in the system. I don't want to dump the oil out of the compressor and measure it because I'm not 100% certain I put the right amount in the first time. Any ideas?

Might be best to see an a/c shop or a regular auto shop that does a/c.
Like I said, I know enough to be dangerous. :D

The shop manual for your truck will tell you how much oil to replace when replacing individual components like the compressor. The majority of oil in an ac system is in fact in the compressor. The knocking sound you heard was probably liquid refrigerant reaching compressor from improper charging, or to much oil. You need to get the right specs and capacities for your system and flush system and start over. As Rondog said, it might be better to see an a/c shop before the new compressor is damaged. I have seen brand new compressors installed and ruined by not flushing contaminents from original compressor failing.

You might also look on the evaporator housing . Some Chevy trucks have a spec tag there also . What refrigerant are you using ? Most of these truck only take 6 to 8 oz. of oil . The auto parts store can give you the specs . i would say no more than 2 lbs. of r-12 and I believe around 80 percent of that if R-134 . These are typcally 5 ton/60,000 BTU systems .
