Soo after my fiasco Last week, I finally got the engine running whew, just a fuse, but getting the idle tuned and i can't ignore a vaccum leak from the carb, i swear I tried. So as i continue i would like every1 to know, that this is the first time That i have ever put a tool to a carburator... so i said, yep that carb needs to get regasketed or whatever u call it. I have a bag full of gaskets, a blow up diagram, instructions on how to adjust the stuff afterwards, a very understanding wife, and an extra car in case i can't get the truck running again :?.
So first step is take off the carb right?
Image
that was easy
Image
Lots of Head scratching and grunting later i put a screw driver to it
Image
The Phillips screw above was loose, real loose could that be the leak? All this crap was in there
Image
So dirty, in and out
Image
Stuff and stuff Ignorance is bliss, I bet there is sooo much crap i could do wrong in here
Image
Float, I adjusted it later by bending the tabs
Image
two different needles, right one came with the kit.
Image
another view
Image
All kinds of stuff i've never seen before, oh boy, wife thinks i'm nuts btw
Image
Your Carb ASPLODE!!!! All Your Base are belong to US!!!!
Image
A lot cleaner Now
Image
So clean
Image
Need a home Chroming Machine Thingy
Image
Choke Right, so is it electric or is that a sensor cuz it has a vacuum actuator attached to it
Image
I think I put everything Back on right Btw What kinda Carb is that, Are'nt i s'poseda have a costing richer solenoid along with other smog parts??
Image
Sweeeet Car starts, need to adjust idle But Wait!!! An exhaust leak tooooo!! It's the Air manifold, Off with it!!
Image
Is this supposed to be a head bolt(like hex key type) or just the napa special on there, could this be why i have 27 years of oil changes on my steering linkage??
Image
Sooo Valves need adjusting, no vanos, no vtec, no hydralic lifters, wierd
Image
Bling!!! Standby for yellow valve cover. Why?? :?: Cuz the spark plug wires broke and the car isn't going to run on good cables for another 4 days. lol, Maybe I should cut my own cables, but i don't like getting to in deep over simple stuff like changing my tailights or fuses.

My father-in-law has a name for my type of people

Make work Artist, oh btw the Carb sounded like a jet engine after i started it before i noticed the exhaust leak, sweet.. it runs, lets see if i can adjust the idle. Tune in next week for my next episode of, "What The Hell Am I Doing? 8O "

Sirjic that was a good right up on doing your own work i'm impressed with the fact that you tackled the job(and a understanding wife)and documented it as you went. You have proved that working on your own trk. can be done when using care.Kudos to you . Oh and by the way that loose screw you found was indeed the vac. leak and is quite a common thing on4-6 cyl. motors caused by the harmonics that these motors produce . :smt023

Good work.

You seem to follow the same rule I always do, "It goes back together, the same way it comes apart" :)

I love the pic of you sitting in the engine bay. Try that with a VTEC.

It's somehow fitting that your jets are sitting on an ad for new Ford trucks...

Good job, at least your carb runs. My first carb rebuild ended up being my first FOUR carb rebuilds...hahaha...
