thats because it was so rust but everything whent back together and made new hoses out of others i had or he bought so we could get it running... only 1 hr if that and mine not being all rusted about 15 minutes to get it off... the first time is the longest all corroded one hose took about 45 minutes or longer to get off

Round Two. This is getting old. About 12 miles into my 13 mile trip home and heard a minor pop. Smoke starts billowing out from behind the cab. I keep going for the exit for home, watching the oil lamp and the temp gauge. Made it to the overpass near the house, and the temp starts to climb really fast. Stinky coolant stench and white smoke all over the place. Not what I needed after 13 hours at work.

Got it home, shut it down and let it cool a bit and then filled the radiator back up. Coolant appears to be pouring from the back of the cylinder head between the head and the block. I took a quick scan of my series 10 manual. Is there a freeze plug in the back (firewall side) of the head?
Anyone got any tricks for replacing it while it's still in the truck?

Looks like this truck is BEGGING to be parts :evil: ...hahahah...

dude from my experience thats ur head gasket, maybe a warped head if you ran it that long. since they are aluminum.


thats exactly what happened to mine, i was driving it around and all of the sudden someone stopped me and told me there was white smoke, and then i opened it up and coolant was EVERYWHERE coming from inbetween the head and block and everywhere else.

turned out to be a project, rebuilt the whole engine cuz head was warped. along with block and what not.

now she runs great.

but yeah, i really think its your head gasket, might have ran it too long. if not then let me know. just going by my experience with my 79 lol.


eh nvm, just realized that you have a picture of where the plug is in the area where your coolant is coming out. haha. i was tired this morning.

but still, sounds like what happened to me. :-p

Yes the blue one. The 'new' one has questionable oil pressure and what sounds like a slightly burnt valve...it still runs way better than the blue one did/does.

I'm hoping to do a leak down and compression test on the 4by next week. It may just be carb issues and a loose oil gauge sensor. I drove it to work tonight, but it needs a windshield BAD. Should have one in by Mon or Tuesday...

I was sort of disgusted with the blue one, so I changed my avatar pic...hahah...I'll try to do a rondog style two'fer pic soon...
