Finally got around to tackling my rear drums today after noticing brake fluid on the ground near the passenger rear tire for the last good while. So I received my special ordered wheel cylinders, and the brake hardware kits and got to work.
Nothing too bad, the drums came off very easily, I was a little concerned after reading some of the horror story posts about that subject. Replaced the pads, hardware and wheel cylinders on both of the rear wheels. So here is my issue. On one side, the adjuster lever is very tight, I am able to move it up and down the self adjuster easily. The other side is very tight, it takes alot more effort to move the adjuster lever. What is the norm for these things? The lever hold down spring did not come in the hardware kit that i had bought from AutoZone. Other that maybe that spring being worn, i am at a loss as to why one side would be tighter than the other. Any help/tips/info on this issue would be appreciated.
Oh, took my drums to get them turned, and it would seem the reason that they were easy to get off was due to the fact that they are worn severely. Seems the only place that carries them these days is Advance Auto. More special ordering to do it seems.

Hey man! I am guessing that you read my thread from a few months ago for the horror stories, if not check it out. I replaced both drums and shoe sets. I had trouble getting the drums off. One big problem was that the star wheel adjuster doohickey was frozen so it couldn't be turned to loosen it. It had old grease in there that had caked it tight. I did not have a sense on what it all looked like inside before I got it apart, and decided after many hours to use a BFH and a screwdriver to pound it into submission. It worked but I mangled the star wheel. Luckily I was able to get some parts from LUVRV8 to put her back together. As for the spring that holds the adjuster lever, both of mine were pretty easy to move, meaning that it was not difficult to push the lever down to turn the star wheel. The star wheel itself had been hard to turn, but the levers springs seemed OK. Do you still have the drums off, or is it all put back together? The other thing I did wrong was at somepoint I put the e-brake on. That really messed with getting the shoes etc on right. It is tricky to push that lever down and turn the wheel when it is all put togther. I think I still have a spare lever spring if yours is bad. Let me know if you need it, I can send it to ya. Rock on!

Thanks for the reply Dottie. I had not thought about greasing the Star wheel, that may be the issue here. Looks like I need to take them apart again. Since I am waiting on the drums to come in, that is no biggie.
I think my favorite part of owning a Luv is when you order parts for it. "A Chevy what?" Is usually the reply I get.
