Are you talking about the white crap or the brown crap. The brown crap looks like oil seeping from your valve cover. I cant tell what the white crap is. It doesn't look too crappy. I hope it's not battery acid crap. Wash down the motor to get rid of all of the crap and see if the crap comes back. This way you can find the source of the crap. Im not feeding you a line of crap, it's just that im on a roll with this crap stuff. No crap, im serious.

I haven't a clue. Is it flaky, caked on, hard or gummy, soft, greasy? Is it easy to clean? The only thing i can think of is battery acid or maybe antifreeze residue. Could it be oxidation off of the aluminum head?

It could be your exhaust manifold leaking. If your motor is burning the fuel clean, your exhaust soot will be a light gray. With the motor running stick you fingers by the manifold, where it bolts to the head and feel for exhaust leaks. You should be able to feel it, or hear if the gasket is broken. That is all I can think of, hope it helps.

From what i see in your pics, it looks like ya might have a corrosion problem starting. Have you checked your ground cable thats conected to your block?Have you changed your battery lately? When you figure it out , let us know what that CRAP is!!

From what i've heard, early S-10's had a 4.3 with a carb on it and a vacuum advance distributor.

I'm going to go with the anti-freeze theory also.

Only thing I've experienced that looks like flaky white stuff like that is antifreeze. Odd thing is in those pictures it looks like it is coming from the top of the head down, rather than coming out between the block and the head which would be typical of a head gasket problem. I'd look for water leaks, probably on the small hose at the front of the engine, or in the radiator. Either one would cause antifreeze to blow back across the motor and could get it all over the place.

It could still be a head gasket problem and its just moving in a way I would not expect. Might look around your frost plugs on that side of the block and the water drain plug on the block too. Depending on how airflow is blowing it around it could be coming from a lot of places. If you keep a real close eye on your coolant level and notice it dropping little by little, you know it has to be coming out somewhere.

check your head gasket for leaks but the main hose that comes from the radiator to the intake could be the culprit i have a 4.3 v6 in my 87 long bed chevy and it did that

later
