I am rebuilding the head on one of my Luvs, and the one I took the head off of, its the new hemispheriacl cross flow style, but it has a port for the mechanical fuel pump, i think. The hole was covered with a fuel pump block off plate for a small block chevy, whats going on here? Has anyone heard of this before? Oh, does anyone know where I can get new valve springs, valves, and new pistons? I want to bore it .040 over. Thanks

Sounds to me you have a later model head that used a mechanical pump that they just blocked off. I'm just assuming you have a 76 thru 80 Luv that uses an electric pump. The new head my machine shop said they could still get me was only available with the fuel pump boss open, requiring block off on early Luvs. I would let your machine shop handle getting the internal parts. From my experience- they know the best parts, they know where to get the parts, and they are usually cheaper from what I've seen. What ever you do, don't take shortcuts on the head, it is the most critical part of the engine.....

My head has that too. Open fuel pump boss. I just cut a flat chunk of aluminum and used the gasket that came with my gasket set and it's been fine since.

sounds like you have an 81-87 g200 head.

does the head say g200 on the front of it?

i have an 84 g200 head on my g180 block in my luv that i blocked the fuel pump boss off on. i just used a SBC blockoff piece and its holding oil fine.

My 83 I-Mark G180Z has a mechanical fuel pump as did all 82-84 1/2 RWD I-Mark 1.8, some G200Z's, the 4ZD1 carbed, 4XC1-U. I know only the US first year 81 model I-Mark is fitted with an electric pump (trunk mounted outside the tank. In-tank electric units were in 4XC1-Turbo & DOHC I-Mark, G200Z Impulses,4ZC1-Turbo, 4ZD1 Impulse, 4ZE1, 4XE1 SOHC & DOHC, & V6's. Not sure about the Luv but I'm thinking probly 82 only? I also read the air pump friendly G heads with the 4 ports above the plugs have larger valves but not sure. Can anyone confirm this?

no, there shouldnt be any problems with the g200 head on the g180 block. if anything it will run pretty damn good. the only problems ive had with the swapping of the g series heads its cooling problems. not serious problems though.

the block to head cooling passages dont completely line up when you have a g200 head on a g180 block or visa versa.

so i would suggest to also take into consideration the cooling. i plan on getting a aluminum radiator for my luv here in the future.

ive had 2 engines that had the g200 head on the g180 block. the first one was in my pup when i got it and it ran okay. the second one is the engine thats in my luv now. i think the g200 head has bigger valves and ports, so it will give a g180 some pep.

and since your shaving the head, youll get some compression back. and the cam will help a ton too.

you should have a good runnin little motor there.

sorry for not posting in a while... been busy w/ school & work, anyway where should i take the material off for the coolant passages to line up? should i take it off the head, or the block, or a little of both? i dont know about taking off a little of both, but i think the latter would be a bad choice, but i dont really know for sure  , so can you help me out Farmer Joe?

I've heard of ppl having problems after having had the head milled. If there are 2 positioning dowels in the block mating surface they may be too long for the reduced head height & can bottom out, keeping the head from seating tightly enuff or not sealing at all. Just grind abit off both posts & yer all good! :D
