LOL  what a title ha? Well Maybe you've noticed that i'm a new guy already, but not only am i a new guy to loves, i'm also a new guy to CARBURATORS!!!. I've never owned a Carburated Vehicle before. So I am in need of someone in Socal that can give me some tips hints on bringing my virtually rustless '79 up to speed. More importantly, I need to make sure that this beast smogs well cuz can't eliminate those magical smog components under the hood yet? right? ? Oh well anyone who likes talking about their truck and is willing to give me some i ideas and tips and give this young'n a good talkin too hit me up.

The 79 i picked up has no rear window but has the seal, and I have found a good rear sliding window on another truck down south if anyone wants it contact me and i can take you to the truck.

Otherwise my truck was beatiful for what I've seen in SoCal. Little dents here and there but nothing that Bondo can't fix. Is Bondo Taboo on Luv's I can't find panels without rust sooo bondo is almost inevitable since Rust is deadly. My father in laws truck's doors pratically fell off after the floor gave in Fred Flintstone style. sooo for now the priority is stopping rust, and passing smog.

I have a comper shell on the back that I think is fugly and want to get rid off so if anyone wants it they can have it. seriously get back to me so you can give my truck a once over and ask me why i bought lol JK. umm

Why don't you add a few pic's of your truck so we can all get an idea of what you're workin' with?

And first thing to do is to get yourself a manual for your truck...it is your most valuable asset when it comes to maintenance and repair.

The best after-market manual would be a haynes, then a chilton's, or as a last resort - a clymer.

If your local auto parts store can't help you with one - ebay has them cheap all of the time.

If your sure the carb is acting up, take it off and take it to a carb. shop. Have it rebuilt. And then you put it back on. Should be about $100.
Has the truck been sitting for a long time, or was it a daily driver before you got it?

The Truck was in storage for like a Year But started right up. What concerns me about smog is that a lot of the little vacuum hoses where connected incorrectly(according to the diagram on the hood) or rotted off. Pictures are on the way. So i can get some ideas. I was cosidering Carpeting the Entire Floor even up the back and getting the headliner and Bench Reupholstered(But from What i read Both windows have to be out for the headliner)(can't post urls)

http://rides.webshots.com/album/558672494HJwGZB

Those are some pics.

By the way. The whole 65-70 MPH drive for 150 Miles homes with Plates expired for over a year on the highway, I was grinning ear to ear!!
No car that I have ever owned has ever made me this happy lol Lots of good Karma in the LUVs lol.

Any help You guys can give me is greatly appreciated cuz I am oblivious as to where to start with this lil truck.
I'm already looking for a dash cap cuz the Aussie are hella expensive. Bought a tailgate. Gonna finish My 300zx B4 i start the body work tho.(I got the LUV while i worked on the 300zx but i think i will reverse the roles  ) It is soo rewarding to see how a little elbow grease can make such a pretty truck look so good :) LUV = Happy lol Thnx guys.

I would say that that truck is in better condition then most of the members here started with. I know for a fact it is better then mine was.

Boy oh boy that is in very good shape. 8) Enjoy it.
And a truck driver must have owned it, because of the little Peterbilt emblem on the glove box door. 8)

I am kinda far away from you but would love to help you. I think you first need to get all of the emissions vacuum lines replaced and get it through smog. Get it pre tested in case it is in bad shape tailpipe wise . You DO NOT want it branded as a gross politer. PM roadshow Bob if you want to buy the missing hub caps, I sold him some extras and he may still have them. We are looking at a breakfast get together or possibly a BBQ here in So Cal, if you choose to come I am sure we could get most of the parts you need and possibly help you get through smog as I have a shop that helps me allot tuning these things for smog.

It's also a good idea to change ALL rubber fuel lines from front to back.

Ron, Do you mean change them out and try putting some steel in there or just new rubber fuel lines? I'm still waiting on my manual, I'm a reader. So the engine IMO looks like its pretty good. I'm pretty mechanically inclined. I changed out the head on my wifes BMW 325i which is quite a feat i think(just short or rebuilding the engine) so do you think i can handle rebuilding a Carburator with the book and the exploded view some1 posted. Should i start looking for the rebuild kit or start looking for a weber. would it be wrong to put a weber on a pretty much complete engine(only new looking thing is a battery and a carburator) cuz i would bet those are factory hoses everywhere. One of the big ones that goes from the airpump i think to the doo dad infront of the carb fell apart as I sprayed it with my hose lol.

on a side note, just drove up to Santa Monica for a heavy speaker box for my rice burner(not really, stock 300zxTT bad ass engine, marvel of engineering) and Wow, I don't think I like LA OMG I was going nuts, I wish I had a bull bar and a LUV to drive through the hordes of bad drivers up there LOL.

Yea, L A can be crazy. But San Diego has their share of traffic now days too. That I 5 and I 15 get darn crowded during rush hour.

I meant change all rubber lines with new rubber lines. Remember, the truck is 30 years old and fuel lines is something people never change. And then wonder why they are on the side of the freeway watching it burn to the ground.

It is good advice and cheap insurance. Just think about how many gallons of fuel have ran through them and the cost of the hose will be under $20.00

We have a problem here with the webers, they are not CA smog friendly.

Welcome to the Family, when I get mine running (should be soon) we can go cruisin' We So Cal guys gotta have a BBQ. You can send your carb to Recarbo to get tested for free, then you know if its something simple or needs to get rebuilt. http://www.recarbco.com/specials/
