For all you drag racers. Wonder if it would be an advantage or disadvantgage to add around 500 lbs of weight to the back of a luv right over the tires to get more traction. Would this defeat the purpose of having a light vehicle to begin with or help the weight distribution.

It might help with street tires if you have wheel spin. If it is a street/strip type vehicle, I'd move the battery to the back. This is redistributing the weight instead of adding it to the truck.

500lbs is a lot of weight. Sometimes I run 100 to 150lbs, and yes it can help with traction to a certain point. If you are not having issues with traction its just dead weight.

dont add weight until you have done all you can to get 51% of weight to back.It takes hp to carry it. When we scale cars we do so with a jack under the front that way we know what is on the front and rear at launch.
my truck has 42% back weight I need 48-49% this is a land speed set up for drag/street I would want 50-52% but never more weight than is needed.

Cool, I have a friend that has a set of scales for their dirt car and he said he would help me get the right weight distro on my truck. I would assume putting my fuel cell back in would help too.

Check your 60ft times. This should give you a idea on how you are hooking up, or not. Our dragster is getting suck 60ft times and we will be moving the battery behind the rear end to see if this is going to help.. It was shugested by some people that should know.. But each one is different. The proof is in the puddin.

It still depends on your setup. Several people running stock Luv rear ends and they drag race these trucks. Not to knock a 9" Ford but the 28 Spline axles are the weakest of them. Depends on the engine, transmission etc to guess what will happen. Manual transmission... As truff as it can get from the tranny side. Coil over four link ladder bars are tuff on a rear end. Nitros, Blowers, and Big Blocks can do damage too.

Really anything that can "shock" the rearend can make it go boom. Mild V8, stock auto tranny with convertor should be ok. Transbrake... Boom lots of shock to the rear end. Most things that will wind up the rear gears to the rear breaks will be easier on it....
Just my 2 cents. You keep the change...

Richard

My truck has a pretty nice 350. 400 horse at the most if that. 350 tranny with a 2500 stall. 3:73 gears. As of right now N50 M/T's on the back. Looking for a street drag to replace my wore M/T's.
Nothing in the bed at all but will be putting my fuel cell back in since I swapped beds and take out the tank. Will move the battery right between the wheel wells and the cell all the way back. Not really gonna do much racing to compete anywhere. Mostly a little town racer. Just want to do the best with what I have right now until something goes south.

No line lock trans brake or anything. Just good old foot brake.
