Great site guys... I've found several messages to help me on my 80 Luv V8 conversion project. I 've read all about the different use of headers and found that I really dont like the idea of a wrap around the frame header. Or the 300.00 bones for them. The problem it seems is the torsion bars getting in the way to use many possible exhaust setups. Has anyone done a coilover front using the stock front end? Now I'm no stranger to Mods after doing many cars in past. Just finishing An 85 SS Monte Carlo that will pull Low 12's consistently. And a 85 S-10 V8 conversion also. But this is a truck that I've never done before.
So the question is, Stability, Handling, additional weight stability, and what size/Brand of front coilovers have been used? There doesn't seem to be much room at the top shock mount for a very large coil. I am using the original Motor Mount towers with a plate setup and Vette Mount pads that will put the Motor in the right postion for just about any Tranny, The core support has been separated and a larger 4 core raditor has been added, Rad brackets have been fabbed and fit great using a short pump leaving just enough room for a tranny cooler and electric fan with about 1/2 an inch clearance for the distributor. This is such a clean installation I really don't want to Half A** the exhaust. Any help would be appreciated. And I will send Pics as the progress continues... Thanks again for your input.

sounds sweet! :P
definately post pictures!

I have been thinking of the coil overs for the front as well, so any information anyone has will help many!
if not it will be process of elimination.......

as for the exhaust I am going with the headman headers. I have helped a friend build headers before and it takes more time than I want to spend plus the engine I am using isn't going to need bigger primaries yet.

I converted my 76 Luv to a coil over front suspension. I used QA1 shocks part# 7001881, 7" springs with a 450lbs. rate. I also used a stud conversion kit part#7001504 (just converts top mount from eye to a stud). The shock was a direct bolt on installation. I just cut the torsion bar behind the lower control arm and welded the bar to the arm. For headers I used hooker comp (not super comp) for a 67-81 camaro part#520-2451 (jegs). the shocks are also 12 way adjustable. They seem to work great on my truck, smooth ride, more clearance, 1.46 60ft times, 10.45@129mph. The entire set up cost me 510.21 shipped. I will try to sent photo.

Later

I have front 9 way adjustable QA1 with dual rate springs, went on pretty easy, just welded a 2" extention up and appx. 1.5 " towards tires. Smooth ride, works great, if you need picts, e-mail me and I will take some and e-mail you back.

hello,
I am looking in a Jegs cat right now and you have 2 choices of manufactures. I do believe that I have the Strange 9 way adj. front shocks, but you could also use the Proma Star AL coil overs, just measure the stroke on the current shocks that you are using and go from there. I have Strange part # S-5203 7" stroke because I am lowered quite a bit. If you are interested in pictures of the install, e-mail me and I will send you some picts. Later, T. K.

I just looked at my invoice from QA1, the shocks were part# 7001881. they say Ultra Ride 3.25" W/Poly. price was 174.90 each. I ordered them straight from QA1. Their phone number is 952-985-5675.

I've got the engine back in my truck but it lowers it about an inch more than I want. How do I beef up the front suspension on a beer and peanuts budget.

Please Help!!!

or get a cheap set of coil overs and dump the bars. there are some subjects on this. you can control your height with stiffer springs this way if you need to.

does anyone know if there are production cars with coil overs that might work to fit the 'beer and peanuts' budget?
