How do you mount a webber 32/36 to a 1980 LUV? We have been to 4 different auto-parts stores and asked for some, but they only have 2bbl to 4bbl,and both carbs are 2bbl. Any suggestions?

Heres the story,

So my buddy is having crazy problems with his hitachi carb. We have rebuilt it, cleaned it out... and I say he probably only has about 20hp... very slow and can't get up past about 30mph. We managed to find a webber 32/36 though, attached to a VW Bug over here at this house where we are working at. He is thinking about buying one, but wants to test out how it runs first. If anyone has any suggestions on how to make this work, it would be appreciated.

thanks!

My Hitachi bit the dust & I got a 32/36 DGEV for my 1.8.
I picked up this kit (Redlineweber dot com kit 662)with everything & I like it alot.
I was able to remove/plug several vacuum lines & stuff so the engine bay is much cleaner.
Tuning is very simple but I don't like the adapter plate design.
There are 2 plates & even with threadlok on all bolts when it was installed it worked loose in a couple of months.
You remove the 4 studs & use countersunk allenhead bolts to mount the base to the manifold.
The second/top plate then bolts to the base plate.
Probably not enuff demand for parts stores to keep in stock.
Redline or ebay?

edit - also see Mokadeth's thread on the offy intakes!

Thanks 1okey2go. The link didn't work, but I found the P/N.

Ordered one... we'll see how it works out.

I have a carb if it will help U....

From my understanding the truck was running before it spun a bearing, so the carb is most likely ok to use.... it only sat for a week or two weeks when I bought it.. so there wasnt that much down time

Is it the stock hitachi?

Me and my buddy both have the stock hitachi. Mine is wokring fine, but my buddies is jacking up reel bad. The problem is that we have one weber here that we can use. We are fighting over who will take the weber and who will get stuck with the working hitachi. So if you have a weber, we'll take it, but if its just the stock hitachi, then we don't need it.

Wish I had seen the 1 piece adapter plate before I got mine  .
I saw pix from 1 of those Aussies were he cut & removed the middle so instead of having 2 circles there was a single oval opening in his adapter.
Seemed like a good idea to reduce blockages in the air flow.

btw... got the adapter in the mail. Put it on the LUV, but still had the same problems. only, it can idle better with the weber.

fuel was leaking out of it, and the fuel pump was only pushing about 2psi. We swapped the messed up parts on the weber, and got new wiring for the fuel pump, and now it runs WAY better. Can actually accellerate, and it doesn't crap out when the secondary opens.

still could use a little bit more power though, cuz if you push it too hard, it cuts out still, and you have to let off. based on other stuff I have read on this site, I think the next thing for us to do, is check the internal fuel pump filter. possibly remove it and get a clear one put in before the pump. We'll see.
