Ok, this one is stumping me, 76 Chevy Luv, Seems to be knocking near rear of engine.

number 4 connecting rod bearing was almost completly worn out, seems to have worn the crank a bit, had to replace bearing with a 25mm oversize (1 size over standard).

Still knocking, visually inspected the block, pistons and connecting rods while I had the oil pan off, no visable damage.

Its definately a mechanical sound, gets faster with increased RPM.

Any Idea, is there something simple I missed, or are you thinking bent crank, would the oil pump or oil pump drive gear make that much noise.

It is auto trans, someone sugested flex plate, that seems fine.

What next?

Any ideas are welcome.

Thanks
Rick

Did you have the crank machined, or just replace the bearing?

You probably are going to have to remove the crank and have it maqchined. I'm pretty sure if you check the new bearing, it's gonna be bad now. Sorry.

Thanks for all the replies...I appreciate it.

I will get it going eventually...not ready to give up, other then that knock the engine sounds strong. so its just a matter of figuring out the cause.

Thanks for the ideas, I will let you know what I find out. :-)
