Offenhauser no longer makes custom intake manifolds for the Chevy Luv stock motor. Due to very slow sales (about 1 or 2 manifolds per year) and their foundry requiring a minimum of any 25 items to be made, they have just decided to no longer invest their time and money in producing them any more.

I had ordered one through summit racing and just got notice that my order was cancelled. After I called summit to find out why, I got the phone number from them so I could call Offenhauser myself, and then they gave me the bad news.

This really sucks, since I have been waiting for it to be delivered for over a month. So if any one can find one that is for sale...please let me know.

The model I'm looking for is the one that takes a single weber carb (model # OFY-6204-CW offenhauser intake for the 76-82 1.8/1.9/2.0 isuzu engine that a weber bolts directly to and doesn't need an adapter) which hopefully someone somewhere has and doesn't need.

As far as I know, that is the only known custom intake ever made that will fit or work....unfortunately

Man...what a freakin' buzzkill.

Noooooo!! I had on on my "to order" list for the summer.

Crap, well, I do see one appear on Ebay once in a while, sure they will be getting higher priced now.

Our only hope according to offy is to find a way to order 25 at once...but I just don't see that happening. I told their rep that if summit had bothered to market them better, they would have sold way more. Proof of that is the fact that the last one on ebay a while back was bidded on very heavily and went for over $350.00...when they used to retail for only $166.00...so obviously there is still a very strong demand for them.

I even tried to talk the wife into letting me kill our savings a bit and invest in a huge order of 25 of them direct from offy, intending to market the hell out of them on ebay....but sadly she wouldn't budge.

I have offy's number....if anyone has a few grand to spare to invest in being the exclusive worldwide distributor of this manifold.

I imagine that summit was getting a pretty good price on them...so 25 of them with shipping included would be about $3500.000-$4000.00, and since you would be the only source you could even charge more than retail used to be for them, then you would have to sell around 10 or 15 of them just to break even. From then on you could theoritically make a tidy little profit.

And I would be your first customer...lol

But is there really enough demand for them? If it would take too long to sell them, then it wouldn't be very feasible, unless you just want to be nice and invest a few grand to help fellow LUV owners! I might be interested in the investment if there is enough demand to sell that many in a reasonable amount of time.

Maybe our brothers in Australia can help out as it seems that is where the good parts are like the ones that were on E-BAY.

I would be interested if I knew I could sell 25 in a reasonable amount of time. Not sure about Australia, the shipping would kill the price. Look at the outrageous price they charge for the new dash. If they were priced like they should be they would make more profit in selling them in quantity. I know I would buy a couple if they were about a third of the price, but at $600 that is just crazy.

I think if 25 was enough for Offy, then if you combined advertisment on Luvtruck and then sold them on Ebay, sounds like you have about at least 5 people on this thread alone, that would be interesed in buying them.

Before they got disconitued, what were they being sold for? (or the price through Summit).

Summit was selling them to the public online for $166.00 US plus about $15.00 US for shipping, and you could also order one from any local US auto parts store (which would buy it from summit for the same price and then add their mark-up to make a little profit) for around $169.00-$180.00 US.

The downside was that Summit didn't stock them themselves, and chose to order them one at a time from offy, which resulted in a waiting time of 6-8 weeks for their customers, which I'm sure didn't help sell them one bit.

However, as I said before, Summit did zero advertising or marketing for this intake even though they had the exclusive rights to sell them, even though the last used one for sale on ebay was bidded on pretty darn hardcore and sold for over $350.00. Why Summit never tried harder to market them is a huge mystery to me.

Granted, it is a fact that some people just won't spend the $$ to buy one...but those same people are driving a diesel truck, have chosen to keep their truck engine entirely stock, or have decided to upgrade their engine to a larger one like a V6 or V8.

Those of us that want to trick out our truck and add a little more power either by beefing up a G180, a stock G200, or a G200Z out of an Impulse would be your best target market.

Which no doubt would also be the same people that have chosen to add a cam, a header, and a weber carb to their engine to get a little more power without adding a lot of weight, doing a major amount of fabrication or conversion, or spending a lot more $$ for fuel.

The nice thing about the offy intake is that a weber bolts directly to it without using any adapter plate, there is no smog or egr hookup to worry about, the coolant connections are already plumbed in, it is designed way more efficiently and way more professionally than the stock intake, it is a lot cleaner externally, and it is already polished up internally to allow for better flow. All things considered, it was a helluva great product.

And now you all know why I nearly cried genuine tears when my order was cancelled and I found out I couldn't get one anymore...lol

Yep, that blows big time.

Wonder what it would take to modify the stock intake to meet some of the criteria of the Offie?

You really can't, because the two designs are just too different.

The offy's intake cools better, has way more even and efficient flow, and bolts up better to the head's intake ports. Plus it is engineered specifically for the weber carb, while the stock one in engineered for the lousy Hitachi carb with all of the stock smog, egr, etc. crap to be utilized along with it.

It would be a little like trying to modify an apple to be just like an orange...lol

The best you can do with the stock intake is to remove the egr and plug the hole with a threaded plug, polish it up internally a bit, cut and grind off all of the external garbage that is unnecessary, and add an adapter plate to bolt on a weber.

That is kind of a time consuming pain in the butt, and it still doesn't compare to the difference you would get by just replacing the stock intake with the offy intake.

Most people, if given the choice, would just go for the offy intake if they could. It looks better, works better, and makes your engine run a lot more efficiently.

I would buy one if it would fit with my weber 38.
I was in possesion of one about 4 years ago but it was in my buddies car when it broke down and we couldnt get back to it.
i was sad :(

i'm gonna need a little more power since i'm running a g180 bottom end and g200 head.

who else would buy one if somebody invested in them???? :smt033

If somebody were to contact summit or offenhauser even to get ahold of anyone who might have had an order placed and refer them here to place a new order.

just an idea. :D

Definitely count me in...I was outbid on the last one on ebay because I was stuck at work and couldn't get online when the bidding was closing. I would probably just buy 2 so that I aways have a spare.

And yes, a weber 38/38 should bolt right on...that's the same carb I'm using on my Impulse G200Z engine that I just put in my truck.

Yes, The 32/36 or 38 fits on intake. I've got it in my luvs, and u don't know how long it took me to find this one. Yeah, I the dual port progressive intake on my '80 and dual port 4-barrel intake on my '79. I would be interested in another for spare.

Well it sounds like I wouldn't be taking to high of a risk if I took on distributing them. I certainly would like to make a little profit for my time and investment. I wouldn't mark them up like crazy. I could always sell a couple on eBay as well for those people who love to bid like crazy who aren't here on the LUV board! lol Heck, I might even buy one or 2 for my stock motors. What is the size and weight of one of these intakes? I am sure it can't be too huge if the other place shipped them for $15. If you want to Tumwatertaz, shoot me a PM with the info of the place and I will contact them and get more details. I am on the East coast, so it might be a little more on shipping for a lot of you? Unless it is under the weight limit for USPS Priority Mail Flat Rate box? If they do fit into that box and weight, then it could be shipped for $10 or less maybe. Let me do some more thinking and contact the company and I will see what I come up with.
